Chromecast won’t cast unless i have w premium subscription

I have the 2nd Gen Chromecast and i can’t view anything unless i have a premium subscription. Which doesn’t make sense to me, why i do need to pay for something so i can view it? If that’s the case I should’ve done more research before buying this
