Nest Gen1 thermostat WiFi broken by TP-Link EAP225V3 5.1.6 firmware update

I updated my TP-Link EAP225V3 WiFi access point firmware from 5.1.1 to 5.1.6 and the Gen1 nest thermostat would no longer connect to WiFi (w2 error). All other WiFi devices in the house, total of 14, including a newer nest thermostat and a nest doorb...
