It finally installed and appears to be working as designed. I think
deleting Google Home and reinstalling did the trick and should be
considered as a possible solution for others having issues.
Well I deleted Google Home and that seems to have done the trick. It is
updating now but seems to be hung up at 10%. I've seen other folks
mention that issue as well. I'll wait it out and see what happens.

Did the delete twice now of Nest, but followed the steps above to start
with Nest and it took me back to Google Home. Asked what device I was
trying to install and sent me right back to Nest. Arrgh. What version of
Nest do you show to have? I have 5....
Brad, I am having this issue and it is very frustrating. I have deleted
and reinstalled the Nest app and I am still having the same issue
bouncing back and forth between Google Home and Nest. I have a battery
powered doorbell if that makes any differ...
