Spoke to Google support via live chat and they helped me sort it. Mine is all cleared up.

I believe I am having the same issue. Router point successfully set up. Try to add wifi points and the google home app either gets stuck on "looking for devices" or trips out and repeatedly asks me what type of device I am searching for
