maybe it's your switch that has the MDI-X? if neither end has it,
presumably a crossover would be needed; though if both has MDI-X i
wonder if it's a race to see which switches over first.
did these routers always require the use of a crossover cable to use
with an ethernet switch, or does it have auto MDI-X in hardware that was
recently disabled by a firmware update? i was switching stuff around in
trying to determine which component ...
I've recently seen wired ethernet stop working, and no wireless
failures.The symptoms are similar -- no connectivity, but occasionally
(and rarely) some packets get through. Just swapping interfaces is not a
great fix.
