Cannot add multiple workspace users to nest mini

Hi, is there any way how to add another workspace user to my home device? Nest mini 2nd gen. Our family is using Google workspace, legacy version.

No. Google punishes its workspace users by not letting them add multiple workspace users to a Google Home. It is ridiculous!

There is no technical reason they can't do this, they just don't want workspace users to have Google Home access. You can set up a Google Home as a workspace user, but not invite your wife or kids who are part of the same family workspace. Bloody ridiculous.

So I'll count this as another request like mine to add Google Workspace accounts to Nest.  There are dozens of threads just like this, but Nest pays no attention and someone will come along an lock this thread so that it will definitely not go anywhere.  In the meantime the only what that you can share with your family is to create a standard gmail account for each of them and then you can add multiple users.  (Oh and if you used your workspace account to create your home, you're going to need to delete that home and start all over again with your own new gmail account)

Hi everyone,

Thanks for visiting the Google Nest Community.

As Google Workspace accounts have different structures and level of security, some features on Google Home may or may not work.

If you are the Super Admin of the Google Workspace account, you can try the suggested steps on how to Link a Google Workspace account to the Google Home app. Note that it may still not work as it will depend on how your Google Workspace account was structured.

Feel free to ask if you have more questions in mind.

Alex

Alex,

That only works to hook a singular Google Workspace account to a Google Home.  You cannot add/share other Google Workspace accounts to that singular home account.  Many of us use Google Workspaces to manage our family access.  So essentially, even though the Workspace is a well structured, easily managed organization, the Google Home just ignores that entirely and tells us we need to build out random gmail accounts and link them with Google Home.  (I should note, you're not the only ones.  I can only share my YouTube TV with gmail accounts as well.)  I don't know what is going on over there at Alphabet that no one seems to be talking to the people that run Google Workspaces.  My theory is that Workspaces have enforced privacy restrictions and gmail accounts do not, and the Home/Nest/YouTube areas of the company would much rather mine our data than make for a seamless experience.

Hi folks,

Some Google Home app features are not available for Google Workspace (formerly G Suite) accounts. To access all Google Home app features available in your country, link a personal Gmail account instead.

Check out this link for more information about it.

I hope this helps.

Juni

No problems have been solved!

We don't want to set it up with a Gmail account because all our data, photos, documents, calendars, connections are with our Google Workspace account.

It is ridiculous that you pretend that this isn't a problem. There is no good reason for it to be this way, it is just Google punishes Workspace users.

Locking the thread is just a cop out, pretending you've helped when you haven't.
