Cannot clear Philips Hue from Google Home / Account

Eric824

I've moved from a home that used Philips Hue devices, owned by my previous roommate. My new home has no Philips Hue devices, yet 6 of them still show up in my Google Home devices under "Linked to you". I've tried unlinking Philips Hue, but it does not show up as a Linked Service under Home Control. I've logged into Philips Hue and left the home and then deleted my account, but they still show up in Google Home. When I tell Google to "sync my devices", it still tries to sync Philips Hue and then tells me there was an error.

How do I get Philips Hue out of Google Home and out of my life? I do not want to see these devices "Linked to you" as I have no control over them anymore. I do not want Google home to continue attempting to sync Philips Hue as I will never purchase any of their products in the future.

I contacted Google support and they suggested I post under Google account support as I may need to have Google clear out Philips hue data from my account cloud data. They responded and told me my query is outside their scope and to try here. I don't know anymore.

Hi Eric824,

Thanks for reaching out. That certainly hasn’t been easy for both of you. Let’s check out what’s going on. Please verify by checking the steps below if this is how you attempted to unlink Philips Hue to your account:

  1. Make sure the mobile device is connected to the same Wi-Fi or linked to the same account as the speaker or display.
  2. Open the Google Home app .
  3. Tap account (your initial or your profile picture).
  4. Verify the Google Account on screen is the one linked to the speaker or display. To switch accounts, tap the down arrow icon and then choose another account or Add another account .
  5. Tap Settings and then Google Assistant and then Home Control.
  6. Under Linked services, tap the home automation partner and then Unlink account and then Unlink.

If this is how you did it check out this link and see if your devices are still linked. If so, you can remove it from there.

Regards,

Juni

Thank you for the response. Unfortunately, Philips Hue does not show up in either Home Control (under Linked services) or the Google Account Third Party Apps & Services (under Linked account), so there's nothing to remove or unlink. However, in my original post, I included a picture that clearly shows the Philips Hue hub and 5 offline Philips Hue lights still under Linked To Me. That hub and those lights are what I'm trying to remove from my account since I've since moved away from the house that had those.

Any additional help will be appreciated.

Hello Eric824,

Understood. Is there a possibility that another home member is added in your Google Home app and Philips Hue is still linked to their account? If this is the case, have them remove Philips Hue from their account using the steps provided in this thread.

Keep me posted.

Thanks,

Juni

Hi Juni, thank you for the suggestion. I think I managed to resolve my issue, though I'm not sure what step ultimately was the solution. The problematic Philips Hue lights and hub were not originally linked to me but my previous roommate. Because of this, I decided to travel out of state to return to my previous roommate's house and connect back to his home network. From there, my previous roommate had to use the Clean-Up function in his Philips Hue app and then resync devices with Google Home. Only after doing that did Philips Hue show up in my home control to formally unlink.

I'm quite disappointed these were the steps I needed to take as it took traveling very far to return to a location I had since moved out from. Fortunately, I still had a good relationship with my previous roommate and the means to travel to do all this. Had we both moved out of the house, discarded the Philips Hue, reconfigured the original home network, or otherwise not been able to contact each other, there would have been no way on my end to unlink another person's Philip Hue devices from my Google account. I should not have to rely on someone else to dictate what is and is not linked to my Google account and I'm surprised I do not have the capability to control what shows up in my Google Home list of devices.
