Chromecast remote app constantly disconnects

Does anyone else have a problem where the virtual Chromecast remote in the Google Home app needs to be paired every time you try to use it? I open the remote, it prompts me to pair it, I enter the code on the screen, and then the next day if I open the remote again, it makes me enter a new code and pair it again. Is this normal?

That's definitely not expected behaviour. Try these steps:

  1. Using your phone or other remote to navigate, go to Settings > Remotes & Accessories.
  2. Select your remote and choose to Forget it.
  3. Remove the batteries from the remote.
  4. Press and hold the Home button.
  5. While holding the Home button, reinsert the batteries.
  6. Hold the button while the LED light is solid.
  7. When the light starts pulsing, release the button.

In most cases, your remote will pair automatically after you insert the batteries. If it doesn’t, follow the steps on the TV screen, or press and hold the Back and Home buttons on the remote for 3 seconds.

Oh I'm sorry, there's been a miscommunication.  The problem I'm having is not with the physical remote, it's with the virtual remote in the Google Home app.  Here's what's happening:

Open the Google Home app > Tap my Chromecast device > Tap "Open remote" at the bottom.  A prompt pops up asking for a six digit pin displayed on the TV, so I enter the pin and the app pairs with the TV and I can control everything just fine.  But if I try to access the virtual remote again a few hours later, it prompts for a pin again.

Apologies, you did say virtual Chromecast remote. Still it do the same if you use the Google TV app instead of the Google Home app?

Hi folks,

Thanks for the help, davidking. I appreciate it.

Ewoods1, how's it going? Do you still need help? Please reinstall the Google Home app and reboot your mobile device. Using a different mobile phone might also help.

Thanks,

Jennifer
