Google Assistant can't turn off Sony Bravia TV

FlavioMadeira

Hello to all,

I have a Sony Bravia with Google TV, synced to Google Home on my phone.

When I ask Google Assistant to turn on the TV, it works, but when I ask the assistant to turn off the TV, It's says something like "Ok, turning off TV" but the TV remains On.

Already saw another post (already locked) regarding a similar problem, but couldn't get a proper suggestion, so I would appreciate any help.

Thanks in advance.

Hey FlavioMadeira,

Thanks for reaching out — let's see what we can do.

Was it working before? Were there any recent changes or updates on your TV? Make sure CEC is turned on (for some TVs, if certain settings are adjusted, it can turn off CEC automatically). Also, try unplugging your TV, wait ten minutes, and plug it back in.

Let us know how it goes.

Best,

Alex

Hello to all, apologies for my late response.

This issue only happens when I try to use the Google Assistant directly on the phone, if I open the TV remote on the Google Home App on the phone and click on the assistant button and ask to turn off the TV, it works, but I consider this useless, because I can just click on the power off button. The turn off voice command on the TV assistant of the physical TV remote also works well.

The TV has the latest updates and the Sony's CEC equivalent turn On. Also did a full shutdown and restart.

Thanks for the reply, and hope there is any more suggestions.

Cheers,

Flávio

Hey there,

Thanks for the update. To confirm, have you tried checking the CEC settings on your TV? Also, try uninstalling the Google Assistant on your phone. Checking for system updates on your TV might work too.

Hello FlavioMadeira,

How's it going with your devices? Have you had the chance to check the CEC settings on your TV?

Regards,

Alex

Hi Alex,

I had already turned on the CEC setting, the TV is a Sony Bravia so the CEC setting is called Bravia Sync, and reinstalled google assistant on my phone, still the same.

Meanwhile, yesterday I managed to install the Google TV app on my phone that gives me a Bluetooth/Wifi Remote TV option with a shortcut tile on the quick settings menu, so I'm not going to lose more time trying to fix something I don't even need to use regulary.

Thank you very much for your attention and help.
You may close this topic.

Best regards,
Flávio

Hi FlavioMadeira,

Thanks for the update. Glad to know that it's already working.

Since this has been resolved, we'll go ahead and lock this thread now. Feel free to start a new one if you need any assistance with your Google Nest devices and the community would gladly help.
