Google Home App on IOS behaves bad

Somehow, the Google Home app on my iPhone became very buggy, with loads of lags and constantly telling me something went wrong (it never tells me what was going wrong). Obviously, I have:

  • Uninstalled the app and re-installed it via the app store.
  • Deleted the home app and set it up fresh
  • Added all the devices again (Google speakers, hubs, cameras, etc)

I wanted to link Philips Hue. It says it's connected, but it again gave me a "Something went wrong" message. 2nd try, it seemed to have linked it, but it didn't... Same for the Smart Live app, either from the app or the Google Home side, not added (although no errors here)... So none of the "Works with Google Home" apps seem to work in Google Home. They connect but then end in a notice that says, "Something went wrong; try again". The apps themselves work fine (all of them).

It has been playing up for a while now, with things not working correctly or being very slow...

So, I'm getting a bit frustrated here. Am I the only one?
Or are there more people experiencing this?

Perhaps--since you're encountering "Something went wrong" errors with several technologies--there is something going on with your Wi-Fi network.

Thank you, but as said, the Philips Hue app (also connecting on the same WiFi) works perfectly well, as does the Smart Life App.  I use an Apple iPhone with Apple Home, and the Philips Hue lights all work correctly. It is indeed only in Google Home that it does not work. It connects to Philips Hue, links correctly, and then a spinning wheel for 3-4 minutes. Guess what? Something went wrong. Try again.

Hi viagozo,

Thank you for posting in the community. I'm sorry that you've encountered trouble connecting your Philips Hue lights with the Google Home app, and it's giving you an error message "something went wrong." I truly appreciate all the troubleshooting efforts you've already taken. Let's work together to find a solution.

To help isolate and resolve this situation, please try the following steps and recommendations:

1. Multiple Linked Accounts:

  • If your Google Home app has more than 2 linked accounts, ensure both accounts are part of the same Home structure within the Google Home app. Accounts not properly integrated might conflict during device setup, leading to errors.

2. Proximity:

  • If you are setting up the Philips Hue bulbs in the Google Home app from a distance, try moving the bulb within 15 feet of your device. This close proximity can improve connection and potentially resolve the situation.

3. Interference:

  • Devices such as Wi-Fi extenders, cordless phones, microwaves, Bluetooth speakers, or other Bluetooth devices can cause interference. Please try moving these devices away from your Philips Hue bulbs and your phone to rule out potential interference.

Please let me know the results of these steps, and we'll continue working towards a resolution.

Regards,

Byron
