Hi, I am having trouble with trying to set up an early (10 years old) Chromecast device via the Google Home app. At first, it was detecting the device but could not connect it to my wifi. Now the app will not even detect the device.
I find the help articles to assume a level of familiarity with terms I simply do not have and, as a result of advancing age, I have manual dexterity, vision and hearing issues that make my task more difficult.
Does someone, please, have some simple, step-by-step instructions that can help me rectify the issues so that I can use the Chromecast device to stream content to my TV? I fear that the solution may well be to throw the whole sorry mess and the app out and resort to a new, expensive smart TV.
Yours in desperation.

Sorry, David_K,
I'm having difficulties understanding the measures you recommend and became lost in the proposals described. For me, it represents a considerable amount of time trying to get the device to work. If I were to cost out my time it would be more efficient for me to toss the device in the bin, purchase a later(possibly simpler to use) item and start from scratch.
Neverheless, I appreciate your efforts and goodwill in trying to help me but I fear I am just too thick and impatient to do the necessary.
All the very best wishes to you. Have a wonderful life.
