Starting on 5 August, I have been unable to use Google Assistant voice commands to run automation in Google Home. These commands had previously worked for months and years. As an example, previously when I would say "Hey Google, cooking," Google Assistant would run an automation routine in Google Home to set the kitchen lights in the way that I had programmed. Now, instead of turning on the lights in my kitchen, it gives me the Wikipedia definition of cooking. As I already know the definition of cooking, I find this to be completely unhelpful.

The first and usually only thing I need to do is Reconnect the Tapo app to Google Home in Settings...Works with Google.

That was the first thing that I tried, and have retried multiple times subsequently. As stated in my initial post, no matter what I do, I still get the "Could not reach Tapo. Please try again." message

As a last resort, the next thing I would do is go into the Tapo app and unlink Tapo from Google (Third party services) in settings and relink it.
I would think that this might delete all your actions that involve your Tapo devices in your Automations. So be prepared for that.
I'm assuming that the TP-Link Tapo app is very similar to my TP-Link Kasa app.

As I said above, I've done that as well. I actually found three places where they were linked and had to have the connection terminated. I've quite literally done everything that can be done, and it still isn't working.

Hi random13,
Thanks for posting in the community and to @SmartHomeH-TAGS for jumping in! I'm sorry to hear that your Google Assistant voice commands for your Google Home automations stopped working on August 5th and are now giving you search results instead. You're also unable to reconnect your disconnected third-party apps and the Tapo server. This is definitely not the experience we want you to have. I appreciate all the troubleshooting steps you've already taken. I'm here to help!
We're actively finding ways to improve the Google Home app. If you could share your feedback about this issue through our feedback form, we'd appreciate it.
Feel free to post any further questions on this forum.
Sincerely,
Juan
