Google Home not recognising multi-way switches after recent update

Tahi
Community Member

Google Home version 2.56.1.11.

I have a 2 gang light switch set up in Tuya.  Up until 7 days ago both Tuya and Google Home  recognized the switches as individual devices and I had these devices associated with 2 different rooms in Google Home. However 7 days ago I had a Google Home message that said that it had removed the 2 devices.  Now Google Home only recognises the 2 gang light switch as 1 device therefore I can not control 2 different lights.

I have deleted the light switches in both Tuya and Google Home and have re-set them up. Tuya sees them as 2 separate devices however I can not get Google Home to recognise the 2 gang light switch as 2 separate devices. I have also tried setting them up in Smart Life and in Grid Connect both recognise the 2 devices but Google Home only recognises 1 device. Has anyone got any ideas where I should look or why these were removed? Thanks

I am having the same issue on grid connect and google home! The other multiple connects (4 point power board and 3 gang switch) show up fine.

Pretty irritating!

Hey folks,

Sorry to hear that you're having issues controlling your multi-way switch using your Google Home/Nest device. Please make sure that all apps are updated, especially the Google Home app. Also, please check with the manufacturer if they receive similar reported issues because it is possible that it's also an update on their end on how a third-party devices can control the multi-way switches.

Cheers,

Muddi

I am in contact with Google Home and they have confirmed that my app and all devices are up to date.  I've contacted Tuya and they have confirmed that the device and their app is working correctly.  This seems to be an interface problem where the Tuya app recognises the 2 gang switch as 2 devices but Google Home only recognises it as 1 device.  All my other devices (outlets/Heatpump/etc) are working fine.  And the 2 gang light switch was working fine until 31/7 when Google Home said that it had removed 2 devices. Why would Google Home remove my devices and not let me reinstall them?

Hi Tahi,

Thanks for the additional info. Aside from Tuya, do you have other brands of home automation devices connected to your Google Nest speakers? Let's also make sure that your Tuya devices are within a good range from the router and your Google Nest speakers for better communication.

Best,

Princess

All my smart double switches aren’t recognize by google as individual switches.

Why is’t that so many of us still have this same problem with the Google Home App not recognizing 2 gang switches as 2 individual switches and all I read from Google resources is to talk to the other apps developers or device manufacturers?  The problem is Google Home and you don’t do a thing to explain the situation and/or get it FIXED….  This is unacceptable.

I also have a Tuya 2 gang switch and the second switch remains offline / not responding in the Google Home app even though it is set up correctly and works in the Tuya app. Removing and adding does not solve the issue, apps are up to date.

Im also having the same issue. Ive checked all the things suggested multiple times and talked to Tuya about it.
All conclusions point to a problem ONLY with Google Home App.

So please, how can we escalate this significant problem?

Agreed, having the same issue just with the Arlec grid connect range

Hi everyone,

Thanks for reaching out.

If other home automation devices works with no issues, it would be best to contact Tuya and ask for an update. I'll keep this thread open for few more days and will wait for your update.

Hi Princess,

As above, I have already contacted Tuya who confirm that the device and the Tuya app are all working correctly.  I have tried setting up the 2 gang switch in 3 different apps (Tuya Smart, Tuya Life, Grid Connect) and they all recognise the 2 gang light switch as 2 separate devices but Google Home only recognises it as one device.  All other devices are working correctly both Google devices and several 3rd party devices.  It is interesting that Xfactor is also having problems with the 2 gang device but is not having problems with other multi-gang devices.

Thanks

But I have already talked  to them.
Their app DOES identify both switches as independent devices.
Google used to do the same. Since recent Google updates any nee double-devices no longer shiw correctly in the Google app.

The only app not working properly is Google.

Aliso - why do  users, with no technical expertise, have to be the meat in the middle? If Google think Tuya are the problem then you need to talk to them, not us.

As requested, this needs to be escalated to someone who can actually provide solutions, not just send us away.

I agree. It looks like a Google problem

As of this morning, the 2 gang light switch is back to appearing as 2 devices.  I have had no notification from Google or Tuya about this so I don't know what has happened.  Hopefully it will stay fixed.

Thanks for your help.

Just checked, mine too.

Somebody obviously found something.

Nothing here yet. Did they just appear  or did you update something?

Xfactor

Just appeared, the double gang still shows as 1 but there are 2 seperate switches appeared in google home now to control individually

Are you on android or iphone?

Tahi

Android but I assume doing a sync should show them.

I’m on iphone. I suspect it will take longer for Google to get the update through Apple.
Tried sync a few times in the last couple of hours with no success.
I’ll just have to be patient. Good news though. Thanks.

The 2 gang switch stopped working and when I looked at the Google Home app it showed the 2 gang switch plus 2 switch devices, i.e. the switches that I had setup in Tuya Smart.  Did a sync, moved the 2 devices to rooms, and everything is back to normal. I did not do anything for them to appear.

@Princess

You were very helpful when thus was first raised.
Can you please see if you can get an update on it now, especially in respect of of iOS users? We’ve heard nothing since we supplied the reference details you requested.

None of your solutions worked.  What is the status of this now?  Incredible that Google Home decides to ignore us for so long.

Yes, sorry, my device is also GridConnect.. I choose to connect it via Tuya. But the problem is the same with the GridConnect app. I believe they are the same.

Hi Princess,

Thanks for looking at this.  Information requested:

Google Nest Speakers:

  • Google Home Audio: 1.56.299498
  • Google Home Mini: 1.56.309385

Android: both 8.0 and 10.0

Devices:

  • Grid connect: 7 lights, 1 outlet, 1 x 2 gang light switch
  • Sinricpro: 1 device
  • Tuya: IR blaster with 4 devices (light, PC, heatpump, TV)
  • Mitsubishi: 1 heatpump

Apps:

  • Google Home: 2.57.1.8
  • Grid connect: 1.2.2(international)
  • Tuya Smart: 4.3.1(international)
  • Smart Life: tried but have uninstalled
  • Mitsubishi: 6.3.1685

All devices work correctly except for the 2 gang light switch.  Google Home recognised the 2 gang light switch as 2 devices up until 31st July when Google Home removed them, I have not been able to reinstall them since.  I have tried installing the 2 gang light switch using the grid connect app, Smart Live, and Tuya Smart. All apps recognise the 2 gang light switch as 2 devices which can be controlled separately but I can not get the 2 devices recognised in Google Home. It is interesting that Xfactor can control 4 way devices separately but not 2 gang devices.

Thanks

Hi, I'm experiencing the same issue with my 3-gang Tuya switch, it only appears as a single switch in the Home application and can switch all light on/off - cannot control individual light separately.

Home app version: 2.57.1.8

Mine still not working either. Do you access Google Home on iOS or android?

It seems it is taking longer get an update onto iOS.

Hi Kiwi, I'm on Android.

Interesting. Others on here have reported their Android Home apps now work OK.
Perhaps  you have an app update to run?

Well there's no available update for me yet, however I see that there's v2.58.1.7 available on apkmirror so maybe it's being released gradually.

You sure they aren't there? Mine is also coming up with the single switch that controls all but has also added seperate controls for each individual switch. Eg, switch for the 2 gang and 2 extra individual switches under different names.
