Google Home unable to connect to Big Ass Fans (Haiku Fan)

joshcgt
Community Member

Hello everyone,

I have been trying to connect my Haiku fan to my Google Home app. I have the wifi module installed in the fan and previously it was connected to google home and working just fine. Just last night my Google Nest wifi point said that it was unable to reach my fan so I unlinked the account and tried to link it back again, but to no avail.

Every time I try to authorise the Google home app for Big Ass Fans, I get an error message that says "Could not reach Big Ass Fans. Please try again." I have already contacted Google CS and they tried their best to help me out but it doesn't work. The Google person told me perhaps the problem is with Big Ass Fans.

Just wondering if anyone is facing the same issue and whether or not you have been able to solve it.

Cheers!

Thank you for being patient with us, our server maintenance has ended and the mobile app and Amazon Alexa services are fully restored. Google Home is currently offline until the recent update is approved by Google. We do not have a firm timeline from Google but expect the service to be restored in the next 24 to 48 hours. If you are still having issues with the mobile app or Alexa please contact us at https://www.bigassfans.com/support/(DO NOT RESPOND TO THIS EMAIL) or call 877-793-2757 option 2, then option 2 again for assistance.

Hi all. I raised it up to the local BAF team. The local BAF tech personnel adviced to reset all the router and modem for my house. It works after.. they mentioned there maybe some cache issue or so. But so far, after I reset my modem and router and all the Google home WiFi, re connect to the fan, it works now

I had the same issue with another item. I also tried to unlink then link again, but that also failed on me. The thing that work for me was to restart my main router. I dont have any other item that would be affected if i restart so better check yours first. After the restart everything went back to normal.

Tried that already but it didn't work. Thank you for the reply nontheless!

Getting the same issue, very disappointing, its been working perfectly for over a year. My Haiku fans stopped working with Google Nest about a week ago. I tried deleting my Big Ass fan account and recreating it then linking it to Google Nest again, no joy.

same here.  I wonder if it is a Haiku/BAF problem?

I have the exact same issue that started same time as well.  Interested if you find a solution.

Yes.  I’m having the same issue.  My Haiku fan was also connected and working with my Nest. But it got offline only with Nest a couple days ago.  When I Authorize the Haiku app and Google Home to link, I get a message that says “Big Ass Fans is linked” immediately followed by the message “Something went wrong. Try again “

Having the same issue for the last few days now

Had mine for 2 years with no issues and since last week lost all google abilities. Have reset everything, unlinked everything, and rebooted everything. No luck. Been meaning to call BAF to see if they have any insights.

Perhaps Australia (where Big Ass Fans originated) getting yappy and belligerent with China is not such a good thing? My VOIP provider had their servers taken down by a DDOS attack that went on for over a week but miraculously stopped immediately that Huawei's CFO was released from Canadian custody.  No public acknowledgement of the perpetrators has been made.

I've had the same problem for several days. This evening I tried deleting and re-joining the BAF Account. Same errors.

The BAF App is working fine.

The Google Nest and Home App are controlling Philips Hue, Samsung Door, Smartlife, and Magic Home WiFi.

Hope it comes back soon, I'd just finally got the wife happy to use Google to control the lights and fans by choice

She might be happier if you'd stop calling "the wife."

Same problem here since last week. Same issue today - Google Home still says "Could not reach Big Ass Fans". Fans and lights work just fine with BAF apps, so not really sure what the problem is. Maybe BAF meant 24-48 hours of business days?

Same issue, with same message

Whatever BAF is doing to fix it, they seem to be taking their time.

Looks like a security incident, I think

Oh dear. Have you tried unlinking everything and reconnecting them again? You might want to try unlinking it from your google account settings under "linked accounts". And not just the google home app.

I managed using a different device to link.  Weird.

Hi there,

It's been a few days since we have heard from you. Just checking in, are any of you still encountering this issue? I look forward to your reply back.

yes.  still unable to connect.  I get through the BAF app sign-in, but then the fans/lights do not show up as addable.

Hello @mstrobvious and @JoeWee

Thank you for your update. Is the fan and lights issue separate from being able to connect to BAF? Or is the issue not letting you connect/login from the beginning?

  • Could you please explain what issue you are encountering?
  • What were you able to do before with this feature?
  • Do you see any error messages on the Google Home app or the BAF app?
  • What troubleshooting steps have you tried so far?

Thanks for your patience.

i was able to hook up the fans and lights before the "outage."  Now, I am not getting any error messages, but I cannot "find" the BAFs.  I link the BAF in google home, but then it does not show up in the list of possible items.

I have rebooted and reinstalled the apps.

the Haiku app works fine, but the link with google is not.

Hi. Before all this issues. I'm able to connect without any issues and the fans/lights option will be available in the google home app.
When the issue arises initially, I wasn't able to even connect to the haiku app via google home app. it just says that "unable to link". the options for the fan/lights were not even available in the google home app.

however, recently, i tried connecting again. the options for my 2 haiku fan/lights were available in the google home app. however, upon clicking the lights/fan button in the google home app, nothing happens and there is a error messages "Something went wrong" appeared below.. it also stated "not found" for my 2 haiku fans.

please help thanks.

Managed to connect but it says something went wrong when I navigate to the controls in Google home. They turn on or off my lights and fan.

Hi. Still unable to connect to my master bedroom fan. The living room fan for me is able to connect properly and detect. I have deleted Google home app, unlink and relink the haiku app and delete and downloaded the haiku app but still unable to solve. The 2 fans are different model. The one that can detect is the haiku I series.

Same here. I have an i6 and a Haiku. Connectivity problems all the time. Very frustrating. Worked perfectly before Google bought out Nest. Now, just a headache. Google dumb home.
