Strange issue, across three different 'works with google' devices, including Phillips Hue, I can't change the colour of my lights, yet every other aspect of control works via Google voice, dimming, turning on and off etc, but when you say "hey Google set lights to blue" for example Google says "lights offline", but if you say hey Google turn the lights off" it's does so!! Also I can change the colour of the lights using each devices own app.

Hi all,
Thanks for your patience, we’ve resolved an issue impacting the ability to change the color of some smart lights using voice commands. If you're still experiencing issues, let us know by replying to this post.
Cheers,

exact same problem here, you are not alone

This issue has been posted in the reddit r/googlehome channel and it seems everyone is suffering from this issue, not sure how to contact google directly?
06-24-2025 08:24 AM
Same. All routine steps with colors say the lights are offline. Voice commands to google assistant devices do the same too. Only way I can do it right now is phone Gemini assistant seems to get this right when relaying to Google home, or directly controlling individual lights in Google Home App. Seems like a Google Assistant issue.

Also having this issue.
"turn off lights" works fine
"set lights to x%" works fine
"turn on lights" gives me the "1 or more devices are offline" error (and it repeats it once per light, so 5 times total)
"set lights to x colour" gets the "Actually, 5 lights don't support that functionality" error message

Same issue here, just started to happen yesterday.

It worked yesterday morning for me, now I'm suddenly having the exact same issue since yesterday afternoon. It can turn lights on and off by voice, it can change the brightness by voice, but if I ask it to change to a specific color, apparently it doesn't support that functionality except it worked for over a year without a problem, so clearly they support it. Just for whatever reason not anymore, it also lets me do it with my caveman fingers on the nest hub by fingering it. But by voice, it can't do anything. It also refuses to start spotify by voice. Not sure what's up but it's extremely infuriating. I've relinked the devices, I've done the cable pull restart of all my google home devices, still. The device doesn't support that functionality, or it tells me they're offline. Then I ask to turn them on or off and that works, so clearly they're not offline neither. Google, please. The google home situation keeps getting worse and worse it seems and it can't even help me convert currencies anymore and gets confused when I speak about the weather.

Same issue here, need help!
06-24-2025 12:23 PM
Same issues I have all Phillips Hue bulbs and what knots. I can control everything in the app, and can turn on and off but not change color or brightness via verbal commands with the displays. Why the fu$k can't Google just leave stuff alone if it already works. I don't need AI to change the color of my lights or look at camera... So fu$cking annoying... 😠
06-24-2025 12:37 PM
Same issue with all my Wiz bulbs. Can’t adjust anything beyond on/off. Didn’t change a single thing on my end, was sudden and is seriously inconvenient. I’ve invested way too much time, energy, and resources into my home for this nonsense.
06-24-2025 12:38 PM
Just to add to my last comment - using cync by ge bulbs and everything has worked perfectly up until yesterday.
06-25-2025 06:54 AM
Have the same lights, and same issue!
06-24-2025 01:49 PM
Same. Using mostly Tuya Smart Home lights.
Everything works as expected both in the Google Home app and Tuya Smart Home app with manual input. Voice commands on Google Nest Mini how ever, is limited to on/off and brightness (percentage). Colors doesn't work on voice commands anymore, and the Nest Mini responds with devices not being connected.

Same issue here. Began yesterday afternoon. I'm glad it's not just me because I was losing my mind trying to figure it out.
06-24-2025 05:24 PM
Same issue for me, voice Assistant, either through my phone or through my nest mini, cannot change the color of lights when given that verbal command, nor with an automation that includes color changing.
Works fine with Alexa.
I tried unlinking my hue account, and adding the lights as matter devices using a paying code from the Philips hue app - as suggested in a number of posts.
That did not fix it, so I deleted the matter devices, and re-linked my hue account (works with Google) - still can't change the color of the lights.
Given that it works just fine on Alexa, and that I can manually change the color of the lights in the Google home app using buttons, the problem is not Philips hue, the problem is how Google talks to Philips Hue.
06-24-2025 06:41 PM
None of the lights are changing colors, wither Hue, Wiz, Lyfe, Feit.... It's 100% a Google issue
06-24-2025 07:02 PM
Same here with Philips Hue using Google home devices. It started yesterday 23rd June. Turn the lights on or off, or dim the lights or make the lights brighter works. Colour change of any description no longer works, and I get a jingly tone I've not heard before and the message " 2 lights offline".
06-24-2025 07:47 PM
Im experiencing the same thing , so frustrating
06-24-2025 09:33 PM
Same here
06-24-2025 10:06 PM
I’ve been having the same problem since yesterday.
06-24-2025 10:45 PM
Yes, this issue is occurring with my Hue and Govee lights. I am able to turn on/off, dim, etc. Color changes just tells me the 3 lights are offline even with reboot of Google Home Mini
06-25-2025 12:33 AM
Same issue for me with my nest hub. If I use the Android Gemini assistant it utilizes "Google Home App" to accomplish this just fine. As others have started it seems to be related to the Google Assistant currently.

Anyone monitoring this forum from google that could provide some feedback?
06-25-2025 06:00 AM
😅🤣
That's a cute question.... I have never in the past 10 years seen Google get on these things and provide ANY UPDATE or WE KNOW ABOUT THE ISSUE or HEY CUSTOMERS WE ARE WORKING ON THE ISSUE.... They just leave US in the dark.... Until one day BAM its fixed or maybe not... This Community is main so we don't think it's just our selves with an issue.... SAD but TRUE
06-25-2025 05:22 AM
Thought I was going crazy. Happening to me as well. Can still control color in home app but voice with the best device only turns them and off.
Keep getting a "the devices are offline" error from the nest.

Same issue with GE Cync & Govee lights that have worked relatively-fine for years. When using Google Home voice commands, I'm told—intro'd with a new “jingly tone” that @Koksy mentioned—“DEVICE_NAME, offline.”
When using the Assistant on my phone (Assistant and not Gemini, to be clear), the response is “Actually, the DEVICE_NAME doesn't support that functionality.”
What is stranger is that the lights seem to randomly “trade off” which ones gain and lose the color ability, with no correlation to which have been used or been soft restarted (manually cutting power to the bulb and then giving it back). One light will be taking commands fine, then suddenly not—with me receiving the “offline” response—while another that had been stubborn will suddenly work again, for a few commands, at least.
Using voice commands to turn the same lights on/off, or to set the brightness works fine. Manually setting color in the Home app or via the Hub's screen works fine.
Once again, something that shouldn't have passed a QC check was pushed to our cloud devices and broke functionality.

Came here b/c I'm having this same issue as well.
06-25-2025 09:29 AM
Two brands of lights, same issue. Very annoying.
06-25-2025 10:44 AM
someone help
06-25-2025 11:26 AM
No one can help any of us except Google.... Its not your bulbs, wifi, location.... Google has somehow killed something in their software that needs to be repaired....
06-25-2025 11:29 AM
And they will never admit it. Their customer service reps their tech support people will push everyone through their pre-written script of trying to unlink the light bulb. Supporting application, relink it, reboot router, all of that crap.
But they will never admit that they push the code update that broke it. Because the fact that so many different brands of lights are not working properly through Google home can only mean it's a Google side problem.

Hello,
yesterday my google nest lost connection during a power down. And lost the capacity to change the color of my lights. It says:”three devices are offline” but i can turn on and off the lights by vocal command and from the app i also can change the colour. This messed up with all my routines. It seems that nest don’t take vocal command to change colours of light. I already performed reset of the nest and i disconectded the accounts of my light and reconnected again. Nothing seems to work. Someone resolved the same problem? Thanks

I am having the same issue and receive the same error. I have rebooted all devices including wifi and modem. I have unlinked and relinked Philips Hue. I then unlinked and connected using the matter number. Still am only able to change light colors using Hue app but can turn lights on and off and other non-color settings using Google Home. I have found no resolution.

Back to normal today
06-25-2025 04:23 AM
Have the same problem but without the power outage. From yesterday the lights just.. stopped working over voice?
06-25-2025 08:47 AM
I am having this problem also, except it hapened when I requested my google home mini to "Do sometimg spooky". I've done it before without issue, but now I lost the ability to request a colour change using the speakers (all of them). I can change colours in the app and using my smart phone assistant voice command. It's an issue with the speaker firmware. I have support looking into the issue right now. They'll contact me when they have a fix. Hopefully, they will fix it soon. By the way, don't ask google to do something spooky until the issuecis fixed, or you'll experience the same issue. That request makes musical noises and changes the light colours for a few seconds, it used to return to the starting colour, but turns lights to white now.
06-25-2025 11:10 AM
Edit. Now seems to work probably google fixed the problem
06-25-2025 11:29 AM
I just tested, and things seem to be back to normal for me. I can’t speak for others.

It seems to be working for me, as well, for now. Let's see how long that lasts, and whether or not Google will ever admit that they caused the problem in the first place.
