Home App Configuration of WIFI

Hi

I've gone through posts around setting up chromecast and use of the google home app. I have done a factory reset of the chromecast ( which is probably 8 years old) and after reset it shows up the chromecast#### ( a new device id). When I did add  a new device, Google Home App  tries to find the device and comes back to the menu;

My phone  does recognise the device id  under wi-fi ;  Which indicates that the phone is able to recognise a device listed/scans it. However only the google home app is not finding it. I deleted Google Home App and reinstalled it not sure if the

Articles suggest make sure the home app  device and the chrome cast  wifi are on the same network.

1. The old network was different ; which is why i had to do a factory reset on the device;

2. How do we reconfigure google home app to find out which network it is on?

3. Has any configured the a new WiFI network to an existing chromecast and if so how do you we do this ? Is there any other way we can configure the network of a chromecast device ? (given that it is listed under wi-fi; i doubt after a factor reset ; it does not seem like a device issue .

4. Sounds like google home app is playing up. Any ideas/pointers?

Thanks

For me, it says “connected” and get final message as “something went wrong”. Tried all troubleshooting but no luck to connect chrome cast with my tv through Google Home from iPhone.

Hi Andrew

Thanks pls see below

  • Which model of Chromecast do you have? 1st/2nd/3rd/Ultra/Audio? Unsure it was an early model about 6 years ago. How do i find out ?
  • When did the issue first start? I moved to another location and it reported could not find the wifi network .
  • What troubleshooting, if any, have you tried?  As mentioned factory reset. It generates a new device id and prompts to use the app to set up.
  • What is the light status of your Chromecast? White and blinks
  • What is the country of your residence? Australia

Hi @nadevinn,

Thank you for the information provided. Identifying the model of your Chromecast will allow me to determine the cause of your inconvenience and confirm whether it is related to the emerging issue with Chromecast 2nd-gen and 3rd-gen devices.

I recommend visiting the article "How to factory reset your Chromecast or Google TV Streamer" to compare your device's model with those shown.

 Keep me posted.

Regards,

Anders
