Home App ignores minimum volume on iPhone

The issue is described in this closed thread from 2022/2023 remains unresolved.

https://www.googlenestcommunity.com/t5/Apps-Account/iPhone-volume-cannot-be-muted-when-viewing-Nest-...

Clearly it appears that the Google approach is to aggressively close threads and cases with zero resolution.  I have the same issue that minimum volume cannot be set to 0 ( muted ) when viewing cameras in the Home app on iOS.

This means it is not able to be used in any public or quiet setting to check on my pets at home if there is TV or music playing, as there is no way to mute that sound from playing over the iPhone speaker.

Yes, latest home app as of 9/16/2024 ( 3.23.102 )

iOS version is 17.6.1

You've had this issue known to you for over 2 years, with no fix.

Hi coredumpster,

Thank you for reaching out to our community.

I'm sorry to hear that you're having trouble muting the volume while watching Nest Cam Live video on your iPhone. I appreciate the details you've provided to help me assist you better.

I can recommend you follow the next troubleshooting steps to mute the microphone on your Nest Cam:

Here you have the instructions to do it on your iPhone and iPad:

  1. Open the Home app.
  2. Tap and hold the tile for your Nest Cam.
  3. Tap More.
  4. Tap Settings.
  5. Select Audio.
  6. Tap the microphone switch to turn it on or off.

Just as additional information, when your microphone is turned off, sounds aren’t listened to or saved. It’s turned off automatically when you first set up your camera.

If you have multiple Nest cameras, you can choose to turn the microphone on or off for each one separately.

Please let me know if these steps resolve the inconvenience or if you need further assistance.

Best regards,

Virna

Uhh, thank you for the instructions on turning off the microphone on the camera?

That's NOT what the issue is.  The issue is the Home app refusing to turn volume to 0.

Just like the Nest app does properly.

This does NOT solve my problem.  Fix the Home app please.

Hi coredumpster,

Thank you for your prompt response and emphasize that you need to turn volume to 0 in the Google Home app.

I've been looking for additional solutions. Please follow these steps:

  1. Tap on the Favorites tab.
    • If there are no favorites, select + Add favorites.
    • If favorites were previously added, scroll and tap Edit.
  2. Check the boxes next to each device, action, or automation that would like to add to Favorites.
  3. Tap Save.

For more details you can consult our article: Meet Google Home App.

Please keep me updated.
