Home - Household Contacts

Hello, I want my son (under 13) to be able to use his Nest Mini to make calls via Meet.
So I'm trying to add my wife, for example, via household contacts, but it's not working. I can add all my contacts there, but not those listed in the Google family group. If I delete my wife from the group, she immediately appears in the household contacts. When I add her back, she disappears again under Home.
What kind of logic is that? My son should be able to call his family.
How can this be resolved? Thanks!

Hello Daniel,

Thank you for your feedback, but I am familiar with the help pages and have read them all several times. Unfortunately, they do not mention that the connection to my own Google account and the Google family group is ultimately causing my problems.

Best regards

Hey @NoFear76

Thank you for getting back to me. I appreciate that you’ve followed the instructions provided by the help articles. To expedite the assistance and provide you with the next steps, please answer the following:

  • Which operating system are you using on your phone (Android or iOS)?
  • Do you receive an error message on the Google Home app when you try to make calls?

Please keep me posted to continue offering more help.

Cheers,

Daniel

Hi Daniel,

I use Android on my phone. I don't get any error messages when making calls, because they work perfectly. Unfortunately, I can't call my family members because they aren't in my contacts.

Hello @NoFear76

Thank you for keeping me updated. Let’s explore additional steps:

  • Confirm that the Personal Results are enabled for the Google Home device. Before you can turn on the Personal result for your device, you must turn it on.
    • Tap Home settings > Google Assistant or Gemini for Home voice assistant > Personal results.

Make sure contacts are synced with your account.

When adding a Google Account to an Android phone or tablet, the contacts will sync automatically.

  • Open the mobile device's Settings.
  • Under "Personal," tap Accounts.
  • At the top right, tap More.
  • Make sure Auto-sync data is on.
  • Select Google from the list of Accounts.
  • Select the Gmail account the user would like to sync.
  • Confirm that Contacts is selected from the list of apps.
  • At the top right, tap More.
  • Tap Sync Now.

Confirm contact is saved to the Google account and not locally on the mobile device.

  • Open the Contacts app.
  • Click on the contact from the list.
  • Click the Edit icon located on the bottom right of the screen.

Confirm that the Gmail account for the user is listed.

  • If no Gmail account is listed, click the menu from the top right.
  • Click Move.
  • Select the Gmail account the user would like the contact saved to.
  • Click Save.

Let me know how it goes.

Best regards,

Daniel
