Home Mini bricked - single green light

UK. It bricked whilst unused, an hour ago  I cannot now get past the single green light which comes on if you depress the button  and whilst inserting the power cord.

Rumour has it that a firmware update bricked it.  People have filled in forms but no fixed confirmed.

@AlanRman

Did you try a factory reset? It doesn't seem like the factory reset instructions for any of the Nest Minis include depressing the factory reset button while plugging it in.

(I have seen the posts about certain older minis being disabled by a recent firmware update, so maybe a factory reset won't work.)

Yes. Pressing just gives that single green light,  that being the only lights I now get.

I get this too, do I just bin the device? Even if Google come up with a solution, its bricked so it wont get fixed?

Mine is the early grey coloured version.  And I recently read that Google was abandoning them.

Am sure an OTG cable could allow a firmware update. This is my 5th media device bricked,  the first one being a Roku derivative bricked on purpose. No recourse though I was offered an unwanted £10 voucher.

I am left wondering if that precedent inspired this. More likely it was accidental.

Reported late December. So looks as if it is by intent. If you read the comments it was done to discontinue features.

Speculation is that the rollout is to brick all gen 1 devices. Business is business I guess,  customers being at the bottom of the chain.

What a pile of **bleep** that is.
