How to i completely remove my Nest data from my Google Account?

Shakingsam

I previously used Nest, which is linked to my Google Account. I no longer use Nest and would like to remove the data collected by it from my Google Account, without deleting my Google Account.

I did this in a three step process.

1) Go into the Home app under the "Home" associated with your Nest device.

2) "Factory Reset" your Nest device (lots of YouTubes on how to do this for you specifice device).

3) Go into your Google Account associated with the Nest Device... you'll need to dig a bit here, but you can download/delete data associated with your Google Account.  My recommendation, is to download all onto an off-line storage device & delete all.

Thank you for your answer. It is step 3 that I am having difficulty with.

I have found how to download the Nest data from my Google Account, but there is no option to delete the data from within my Google Account as far as I can see.
I can unlink the Google Account from Nest, but this does not delete the data and after unlinking I am not able to log into the Nest account directly. My previous pre-Goggle migration password does not work and I do not receive a reset password to my email address if I select Forgot Password.

When I then login to Nest with my Google Account it re-links it and the data is still there.
If you have any specific instructions on how to delete the Nest data that would be much appreciated.

Hello folks,

Thanks for reaching out to the Google Nest Community Forum.

I appreciate your input, @pgm944.

We're sad to see you go, @Shakingsam. We hope we can change your mind in the future. With this, you can permanently remove your Google account from the Nest. Please sign in with your account associated with your Google Nest devices here and go to the Security tab. Scroll down to "Your connections to third-party apps and services". Look for the Nest and tap to unlink or remove it.

Let me know if you have more questions.

Regards,
Mark

Hello Shakingsam,

Checking back in — how's it going? Still need our help?

Thanks,

Mark

Can you confirm these steps REMOVE ALL NEST DATA, and do not just unlink the ability to login via google?

Hi Mopmarshyelp456,

I appreciate you posting on this thread. Your ability to disconnect from third-party apps and services will also disconnect your Google account from all the data that has been put into your Google Nest devices. However, you still have the choice to re-link or sign up for Nest as a new user using the same email address.

Thanks,
Mark

Hey there,

I wanted to see if you still needed help. Please let us know if you have any other questions or concerns.

Best,

Mark

Hi @Markjosephp,

Thank you for you answer, but as per my previous post this does not resolve the issue.

After unlinking the account I am no longer able to access the Nest account and cannot delete it. The only option is to re-link it to my Google account and I am back to square one.

So after unlinking my Nest and Google accounts, how do I then remove the Nest account and its associated data?

Hello Shakingsam,

I definitely understand how this can be confusing between the Nest account and the Google account.

Your security comes first in everything we do. If you were able to completely remove your Nest account from your Google account and no longer have any active Google Nest devices, you can only retrieve your Google data as history.

According to the Google Privacy Policy, your data may be shared with third parties when you use Google's connected home products and services. We also go over how information is shared between Google Nest members and other connected home devices and services. Please check out the FAQs on privacy: Google Nest and let me know if you have more questions in mind.

Best,

Mark
