Issues removing (LG) TV from Google home

LuckyB

Hi,

I wanted to add my (LG webOS6) TV to goolge home. This was possible using remote control on the TV, workflow was similar as adding a NestHub or Mini to google home etc.

Afterwards the Status of the TV was in a loop "Connecting-->Not responding". Since I wasn't able to fix it I tried a factory reset on the TV and tried again, finally with the same issue.

Linking the TV in the LG app (LG ThinQ) and connecting LG ThinQ account o the "Linked services" it finally worked.

But now I'm having three TVs in my home app, and the two devices created at the beginning are not working and I'm not able to delete them from google home.

Error message:"Only owners can unlink" (translated from german, so could be differnent message in case english is used, original message shown is "Nur Inhaber können eine Verknüpfung aufheben".)

Unlinking "LG ThinQ" removes the working TV, but no chance to remove the two not responding devices created at the beginning, also integration only shows "Device Typ: TV".
While the LG ThinQ integration shows:
Connectd: LG ThinQ
Name: from LG ThinQ: TV
Device typ: TV

Maybe anyone has an idea how I can delete the not working TVs from my google home app?

Thanks a lot

Hey Jake,

Sound great!

I'm still having the same issue.

When I open the television in google home there is this toggeling state between  "connecting->no response".
If I try to delete it I get the error only owner can remove the device (translated from german so could be slightly different).
Also tried to move it to a new "home" and to delete the home, but then its not possible to delete the home.

Thanks

I'm having this problem as well. Google "Support" suggests things like deleting the Home and starting over, using a different email address for Google Home, and contacting LG (because they can somehow fix things in Google's app). LG has no clue what's going on. This is a Google Home app not working as it should problem.

In the meantime, I just made a "Zombies" room and put "[Old LG TV]" in it. Down at the bottom, out of sight, out of mind. Wish I didn't need to resort to this kind of gimmickry.

Yes, same issue and can't delete either of the listed LG TVs....very annoying  😠.

Am I the only one who’s noticed that this seems to be a matter of how the services connected to one another in the past and how they connect now? The TV(s) we can’t delete are connected via the version where we had to ask Google to ask LG to do something (which worked 60% of the time). On the current connection, we just ask Google to do something to the TV (and it works way more consistently).

No one else’s LG connection just stopped working one day and they had to reconnect Google and LG, only to find the non-working connection stuck in “offline” on their Home app?

Just to add to this I have tried completely unlinking my LG account and the TVs don't go away.

Then when you try to delete them it says unlink service.

I have 54 devices on 9 rooms so creating a new home is not an option. Just for grins I did create an entirely new LG account and it only shows 1 device when I link it to Google home, but the other 3 TVs are still just stuck. 2 of them are duplicates of the same TV and another is one that was returned due to issues with it. But they just won't go away.

Any other help would be greatly appreciated!

For those who have Zombie TVs in your Google Home App, I found a solution.

Edit: I'm using a Samsung S21

I repeat, I HAVE FOUND A SOLUTION.

  • Touch the name of the room the TV is in (in my case it's the basement, where it says "Basement, 6 devices").
  • Click the gear icon
  • Choose the TV (in my case, the "Basement TV")
  • "Remove Device" in red is at the bottom of the screen.
  • Rejoice!

YAYYYY! WOOHOO!

Couldn’t get this to work using latest Google Home app on iOS 15.6, or iPadOS 15.6.  There is no remove device in red at the bottom of the screen.  Can I ask, what device did you use?

Android. Have you touched the name of the room it's in?

Unfortunatly also not working for me.
Using Android.

(And yes I started with touching the name of the room it's in)

Same Problem , the postet solution isnt working for me.

3 dead linked TV, with Connection issues, 1 i could Switch in another Home and then there ist even one that says i have no right to Switch it ....

Have you followed my instructions exactly? It starts by touching the name of the room it's in

Where the option to delete the device would normally be, there is an option to unlink LG Thinq app. It's not user error. Your click delete solution doesn't work.

Hello there,

We’re sorry if this has been difficult for you. Let me help you check this out.

To set your expectations, to remove devices from your Home app, they must be connected to Wi-Fi and are working at the same time. That way, we can access their device settings. Try the steps below:

  • Press the Settings button on your remote and select All Settings from the list of icons that pops up.
  • When you have entered the LG TV Settings menu, select General.
  • Now, scroll down to User Agreements and uncheck everything except the Terms of Use.
  • Then select the Agree option. Follow the instructions.
  • Re-install your Google Home app and check on the devices if it’s still there.

Keep me posted.

Regards,

Dan

The problem is that the devices are no longer accessile. At least in my case. I had 2 TVs that were activated, then returned to the store. So now they are stuck in the Google App and not showing in the LG app as they have been removed there.

Any time I try to remove the apps from Google Home it says I must remove LG app, but they are not in LG app.
So this is my issue. Not sure if others are the same

I've tried but the TV is always in home app and now is disconnetted from WiFi, for home app but no for TV.

😞

Dan, this is something that needs to get fixed in the code of the iOS Google Home app (not sure about Android) . The devices are stuck. I put mine in a Zombies room. The first step on the path to a solution will be when the developers are aware of and working on it. You don’t have a solution, I promise. Thanks.
