News preferences being ignored

Sooji

I noticed my morning routine started out per usual but my news sources went from Reuters (one I allow) to suddenly playing Fox News (something I very intentionally do not allow). It happened yesterday and again today. I believe there's a bug related to preferred news sources.

Removing and resubmitting preferred news sources did not fix this issue. I noticed other reddit users also have this issue but didn't see a thread here:

Hey folks,

Chiming in to ensure everything is covered here. I appreciate @JillG's efforts in updating this thread.

Rest assured that our team is aware of this, and looking into this issue at hand. Just an added questions - are you having this issue via routine or directly from your speaker/display? Also, make sure to send feedback via voice command on your Google Home/Nest devices by saying, "Hey Google, send feedback," followed by the keywords: "GHT3 Community Play news from incorrect news sources." Visit this link to learn more.

It is best to send feedback after you experience the issue, so I suggest replicating it first. Also, make sure that device reports are enabled on your devices.

  1. Make sure your mobile device or tablet is connected to the same Wi-Fi or linked to the same account as your Chromecast, or speaker or display.
  2. Open the Google Home app.
  3. Touch and hold your device's tile.
  4. At the top right corner of the screen, tap Settings > Recognition & sharing.
  5. Turn on Send [device model] device usage and crash reports to Google. (Example: Send Google Home device usage and crash reports to Google.)

Note: I'll pin this as a "Solution" so all users having this issue will see my response first.

I'll get back on this thread once I have more information to share.

Cheers,

Muddi

Hey folks,

I have some great news to share! This issue should now be resolved and you can get back to using your device and listening to your preferred news provider as normal. If for some reason you’re still experiencing problems, please reboot your devices to refresh the settings. If it's still the same, please update this thread and let us know.

Cheers,

Muddi

I’ve rebooted and removed the news services and then re-added them, still playing the same (wrong) news 😞

My news just played this morning from my best hub, and it's still the wrong news

Hey folks,

I appreciate you all for raising this concern to our team.

I've duplicated this thread to a similar trending issue on this link. Our team is looking into this issue at hand and I suggest following the main thread for updates.

Thank you for your patience.

Cheers,

The only workaround is when I use voice recognition.

In all other cases it feels as if the news of all the house's devices is on a separate default account.

I even deleted my existing house and made a new one, rebooted and resetted all devices...

Unless I use voice recognition I will always get the default setting news for the used language.

☝️This should be pinned as a solution. 👆

Same issue popped up for me this week. "Hey Google, what's the news?" As I've done hundreds of times before and it skipped straight to CBC (I don't live in Canada) skipping NPR, Local Newspaper, BBC World, ESPN, Reuters, and like three others.

Asked it to play NPR News Now news directly and the speaker replied that it could not do that.

Same issue for me. Coincided with me resetting them up after a house move so thought it was me.

Let's hope it doesn't take Google as long to acknowledge and fix this as it did the other podcast issue (9+ months to fix that)

Appears to be fixed for me as of this morning. My morning routine played the correct news sources.

Mine is working too (23/7/22 1500 GMT+11)

(I’m asking direct “hey Google play the news”, not a routine)
