Presence detection with kids' accounts

Hi everyone,

Now that Google dropped the 13yr age limit, I recently installed the Home app on my children's phones but they don't seem to work for presence sensing. This creates an annoying situation: when they are home alone, the house still goes into "Away" mode and triggers all the nest cameras as they move through the house.

Is there a setting I might have missed that would allow to include children's accounts in presence detection? I checked on their devices (iPhones) and on my Family Link app, but with no success. Is that even possible?

I would really appreciate any tips on how to handle this.

Thanks in advance for any help!

Hi @dandooze

Thanks for reaching out to the community! I understand you're having issues with presence sensing on your children's accounts. I know how frustrating it is when a feature doesn't work as you expect. But don’t worry! I’m here to provide you with some information.

Presence sensing isn't available for child accounts because certain settings, including Activity and Settings permissions, are automatically turned off for users under the age of 13 (or the applicable age of digital consent in your country). These accounts have a default Member level of access, which doesn't allow for the management of presence sensing.

I know this might not be the answer you were hoping for, but we're always working to improve. We appreciate your feedback and hope to implement this feature in the future. If you'd like to share your idea with our team, you can do so using our feedback form.

Let me know if you have more questions! I will be happy to answer them.

Best regards,

Debora
