Remove old smart devices from Home app

Creospect
Community Member

How do I delete old smart lightbulbs from the Google Home app when I no longer have them in my possession?  I replaced two light fixtures in my kitchen that contained smart light bulbs. The smart bulbs were donated to charity but they are still showing as eight "offline" devices in my Google Home app. How can those smart bulbs be removed? I have a smart home that is connected to over 30 Google devices and moving them all to a new "Home" in the app will be extremely tedious and time consuming. I'm hoping there is an easier way.

Hi Creospect,

Thanks for visiting the Community.

Sorry to hear about your experience on removing the devices on the Home app. Let's go ahead and try these steps:

Remove Google Nest devices from a home

When you remove a device from a home in the Google Home app:

  • It will disconnect the device from members in the home in the Google Home app.
  • It will be unlinked from your Google Account.
  • Data associated with this device, such as video history, will be deleted. Note: Some basic device data may remain associated with the home.
  1. Open the Google Home app .
  2. Touch and hold your device's tile.
  3. Tap Settings Remove device Remove.

Note:

Let me know how it goes.

Best,

Princess

I appreciate the response, but those steps only work if the device is still active. In my original message I explain that those smart light bulbs are gone. The menu option to remove them disappears if the device is not on the network. I'm at a loss as to how to remove all of those smart lightbulbs.

Hi Creospect,

Thanks for clarifying. Have you already tried to perform a complete reset to your Google Nest speakers? Let's try that first to uninstall the Home app after performing the reset. As soon as reset is done, set up the Google Nest speakers in a new home structure and let's see if the old devices still appears.

This issue did not involve speakers so they can't be "reset". Your reply leads me to believe you didn't really read my problem. I have dozens of devices active in my home and I have several home groups for controlling them. Creating a new home structure, simply to remove an old device, is a tremendous hassle. Requiring a customer to create an entirely new Home structure to remove an old device is ridiculous. This thread, and your irrelevant and unhelpful responses, prove to me that this forum is useless. Google doesn't really care about the difficulty a customer may have, even if that customer has purchased and integrated as many Google devices into their life and home as I have. I am deeply disappointed in the lack of care for the customer experience.

Hi Creospect,

We apologize for the incovenience. I know that you have a lot of devices that are linked to your Google Nest speakers however, reset is one workaround that works best. As another option, you can also uninstall and reinstall the Home app to see if this will fix the issue.

Princess

I don't have speakers! This isn't about speakers! You obviously never read my post or the direct replies to you. You also don't appear to have read or understand my problem. This is useless. You are a horrible support representative.

Hi Creospect,

If you don't have any Google Nest speakers but experiencing issues on the Home app, we can only provide basic steps as what we usually provide. Furthermore, you can send a feedback using your phone from the Home app if the steps didn't work.

  1. Open the Google Home app.
  2. Tap on the upper right corner and select your Account.
  3. Select "Help and Feedback"
  4. Tap on Google Home app.

Best,

Princess
