Shopping list not sharing with family

chillyman
Community Member

I used to use OurGroceries, which I have learned is no longer supported. I am attempting to switch to the Google shopping lists.  When I attempt to add any of my family members to share, it shows their name, I click on it and then click ok.  The screen disappears, their name does not appear nor do they get an eamil.

I have also attempted to type in their entire email and the same issue occurs.  Please help as this was one of the biggest benefits of having a google home in our house.

Hi @chillyman

Do the family members also have a Google account?
Personally, I am using Google Keep to share lists with family members.

yes.  All have a  google account.  I use google keep as well to share tasks, but have not found the ability to interact with those on my google home.

Hi @chillyman

You can set up Google Assistant to work with Keep. 😊
If you open the Google Assistant App --> Settings --> Notes & Lists --> Check Keep.

Thank you, but I do not see that (or any option) when I am there.  I only see the following:
Manage your notes and lists

access them by saying.....

Select your notes and list providers

future notes and lists created with your.... Learn more

Dont Sync

Your assistant will not sync our notes and lists with any provider. (radio button but there are no other options to chose)

Availability

Available on iOS 10.0+....

Hi folks,

chillyman, thanks for reaching out, and sorry for the delay. See the steps below on how to add a member to a shopping list.

  1. Open the Google Home app.
  2. At the top right, tap the account.
  3. Verify that the Google Account shown is the one linked to the Nest speaker or display. If correct, tap Close to return to the previous screen. To switch accounts, tap the down arrow next to the Google Account, then tap another account or Add another account.
  4. Tap Settings.
  5. Scroll down to Services, then tap Notes & lists.
  6. To view all lists, at the top left, tap Menu.
  7. Tap the list they're sharing > Tap the Share button.
  8. Enter a name or email, or scroll through the contact list.
  9. Tap Save.
  10. The person will be sent an email where they can agree to be part of the shared list.
  11. When the person agrees to join the shared list, they need to make the shared list their primary list to start to view and manage the shared list.

Thanks for the help here, RXShorty.

Regards,

Juni

Thank you for responding. Apologize as I have been away.  When I get to step 8 I see the name, I select it and it never shows up in the list and the family member never gets an email.  Does this have anything to do with my google account is a workspace business plan?  I know this is the reason calendar does not work on the nest.

Hey there chillyman,

Apologies for the delay! We appreciate you informing us about your Google account. To maximize the use of Google Home features, a regular Google account, preferably with a Gmail domain, is required. Personalized and business accounts are not recommended due to the fact that they have a couple of or more security processes. The calendar not working is a testament to it.

Check out this helpful guide for more information and troubleshooting steps: Share a home and devices in the Google Home app.

Hope this helps.

Kind regards,

Dan
