TP-Link Integration

Andrew64

The google home app works perfectly fine when interacting with google products but when I set up my Kasa plugs and Samsung TV to work with google they can be added to a home but then show up as "offline" and are unable to be controlled. Further if i add any of these devices to my NJ "home" inside the home app they will appear online and fully functional, if i then move them to my MD "home" they revert back to being offline and unable to be controlled. I have tried un-linking both kasa and samsung accounts but this does not solve the problem. I have also reset the plugs and TV themselves and this does not solve the issue. Creating a third "test" home in the app and moving any of these devices also does not solve the unresponsive issue. It appears they will only work on the "NJ" home which just so happens to be the first home i set up on my account many years ago.

Thanks for the post. I have TP-Link for my in-home mesh Wi-Fi 6 that I'm using and I've linked the TP link account to Google Home and have been using it without any issues for maybe 4 months now. But I wanted to buy some more plugs and in the spirit of not needing to download another smart app because I bought a different brand of plug. I was looking into buying the kaza plugs by TP-Link and this kind of gives me pause knowing you're having this issue. So far I've luckily not had any issues with it recognizing my Wi-Fi or actually it identifying with any of my other non Google brand smart devices. I'll be sure to check out the diagnostics and settings in my TP link app though because their app is pretty extensive and it'll tell me right away if there's any issues. Thanks for the post. I'll be keeping a heads up for any advice they may give you. I wish I had some to give but so far luckily - knock on wood - my smart plugs are working fine. However, most of my smart plugs are branded by GoSund. I have to say those are some plugs I would highly recommend. I've had them for almost 2 years and never had an issue both with Alexa or Google.

Hi folks,

@BasikBlack, thanks for the feedback, this is appreciated.

@Andrew64, thanks for posting and for being a step ahead of us. I’m sorry for the trouble this has caused you, let me help you out. You can remove both Kasa plugs and Samsung TV directly to your account, then attempt to relink them and see if this will make a difference.

There is no change in this situation and I have removed the tv from the account and re added it. The kasa integration is so unresponsive that the home app does not even recognize that I have a linked kasa account.

Hi Andrew64,

To make sure, are you using a regular Google Account? Let's start from scratch, remove all your Kasa devices and Samsung TV to all your current home structure. Reinstall your Google Home app. Create a new home and add your Google Home speaker there. Once added, set up your Kasa devices and TV on the same home structure. Also, make sure your devices are within 15-20 feet of your router and connected to the same network/band.

Keep us posted.

Thanks,
Alex

Your suggested course of action worked perfectly for the kasa devices on the new home but broke immediately after I added a device to a second home. When all devices were on a single home they were able to function through the google home app. When devices were split between two homes, let's say home X and home Y, the devices that were located on home X worked while any device on home Y showed an "offline" status. All devices still maintained all functionality in the Kasa app itself. The Samsung TV was in a similar situation when aded to home Y or X.

I have been told by the Kasa support that there must be an issue with the google home integration side when using two homes.

I'm having almost the exact same issue with my Kasa wall plugs as you. It started about 3 days ago where they are both telling me the devices are offline. I disconnected them, deleted the account from the Home app then reconnected them but it is still telling me they are offline.

I have a similar issue with my wall switches. They show offline in the Google Home app and online in the Kasa app. I can use voice commands to turn on the controls, and it works, but Google will say the device is offline. I have had zero luck getting the device to show online.

Hi folks,

Apologies for the late response. I'm jumping in to see if you're still having the same behavior with your smart devices? Is there any progress?

I'll be waiting for your response.
