Talk and Listen not working on Samsung Phone (Very low sound) on Nest Doorbell

aasebo
Community Member

I recently purchased an Nest Doorbell with battery. I have an Samsung S10 with Google Home app installed. When trying to speak to visitor through app, the sound is so low that they can not hear what I'm saying.

When I instead answer doorbell with an Nest Hub (2.gen) the sound is loud and clear, so there is not a problem with the speaker.

Is there a problem with microphone detection in the Google Home app that are releated to Samsung phone hardware?

Hi there,

Sorry for my late response. Thank you for all of your patience while waiting for a reply. I just wanted to make sure that your issue is addressed. I can definitely understand how frustrating your situation must be. I would love to help you find a solution to this issue.

  • Do you still need help with this issue?

  • What troubleshooting steps have you done thus far?

  • Have you tried to restart your device if you haven’t already?

  • If the restart didn’t work, have you tried to do a Factory Reset? This would be a last resort option, but would clear out issues and the device would essentially be ‘brand new’

Please let me know if you need further assistance.

Best Regards,

Brad.

Hi Brad

Yes I still need help with this issue!

I have verified that the speakers work just fine. I've used the talk and listen function on a Nest Hub and the visitor can hear my voice loud and clear.
When trying the same thing with my Samsung s10, the sound is very low and the visitor can't communicate because of it.
I have also tried restarting it and resetting the wifi network. By the way, my wifi network is also a mesh Nest Wifi.

I've read on the forums that this seems to be an issue with Samsung devices for a long time, and it is not just me that has this issue.
There should be more focus on this issue, Samsung is one of the biggest phone branches, at least in my country.

The option to answer my doorbell when we're not home was one of the main functions I was looking for when buying a smart doorbell!
Please tell me your guys are working on fixing this in a software patch.

@aasebo

Yes I am afraid that I have seen the same thing with many Samsung devices. Unfortunately, I do not have a direct answer as we are still collecting data on this issue. I would agree that I would like it to be resolved as soon as possible. However, I have not been given any form of ETA on it. I am terribly sorry for this inconvenience! I would suggest if you can, using a different device to use this function. Please let me know if you need further assistance.

Best Regards,

Brad.

Thanks for replying.

If it is a known issue it should be informed someplace that talk and listen dont work with Samsung devices so that others can decide if they want to buy this product. For me it's to late to return my doorbell since it's more than one month old.

I've read others with the same problem have gotten Nest Aware subscription as compansation while waiting for this issue to be resolved?

Please let me know if there is anything else I can assist you with.

Im sorry brad but the suggestion to use a different device is almost laughable. The idea behind these doorbell security devices is that they can be remotely monitored, the vast majority of users do not have a spare mobile device just lying around to use in the interum (and nor should they have to). The fact this issue has remained unresolved for so long is simply unacceptable.

I have the same problem with a google nest doorbell battery. I'm using a Samsung Galaxy S10. If I knew google nest products wer3 not compatible with Samsung Phones, I would've never bought such a expensive google doorbell.

Hello google support, when is the software going to be fixed for the whole samsung galaxy line?

Having the same issue on the S20+ seems this is a widespread issue. When can we expect a fix? A smart doorbell I "Upgraded" from was literally a quarter of the price had no issues at all. I would have rather saved my money and stayed with the cheaper unit that actually worked.

Hi Brad, do you have any updates on this problem?

Hi there, @Jelmer_

Unfortunately I do not have an update.e However, if you haven't yet, there is a troubleshooting article that goes over troubleshooting camera sound issues. You may want to go through that as well if you haven't. I also have a general article that will go over Talk and Listen in depth which could help figure this issue out. Please let me know if you have further questions.

Best Regars.

Not to be rude Brad, but it has already been confirmed by the community that the google nest products are failing badly with samsung phones, in other words, they are not compatible with eachother on different levels of the feature set. For us, the consumers, there is no way to fix badly written software of google, which is selecting the wrong microphone. If you want prove, the links below are all complains about the same problem which google still didn't fix for a good 2 years now. Looking forward to your answer:

Hi Brad,

Another frustrated Samsung Galaxy owner here. I just purchased both a doorbell battery and nest cam battery the the talk feature is useless on both of them. It makes the doorbell unusable and unfit for purpose.

I have tested a friend's iPhone and it works fine. I can't believe Google has dropped the ball so badly here. How can a Google product not work with the world's largest selling line of Android phones, was there no testing done before release? The fact it works with Apple products makes it worse!

Talk and Listen not working on Samsung Phone (Very low sound) on Nest Doorbell

I just bought the Google Nest Cam Indoor and I have a Samsung S21 Ultra cellphone. I'm having the exact same issue described in this thread. When i try to use the Talk and Listen function of the camera via the google home app the camera speaker sound is very low.
Can we please get an ETA on when this is going to be fixed???? I feel like i wasted my money.
