Turning lights on when phone connects to wifi

Is the above possible, or not? Seem to be some posts saying it is, others not....

ie am walking down the road, get close to Home, WiFi connects, and would like the outside light to come on automatically.

But I can't see how to set this up? Would think that all the 'Smart' devices at home (and my phone), are clever enough to work out that I am home?

Can't find any settings for this in the app.

Whatever happened to the "home and away" routines?

Thanks.

Hi hornetster,

Thanks for reaching out. Home and Away routines can automatically turn on or off your smart plugs and switches, even if you forget. You can set up Home and Away routines with the Home app. Check out the steps below on how to set it up.

  1. Open the Google Home app Google Home app.
  2. Tap Settings tap the name of your home.
  3. Under 'Home and Away routines', tap Set up Set up again.
  4. Set up your Home routine and Away routine by selecting the devices and settings that you want to adjust when someone comes home or when everyone is away.

Check out the article below to know more about it.

Thanks for the answer.

But... apart from the fact that there IS NO "Home and Away" in my home settings (Believe I may be in the Public Preview..?), my phone, even though it is a Google Pixel 7, does not appear in devices, and cannot be used to control stuff 'automatically'??

As explained, I would like some lights in my home, to come on automatically, when Wifi connects. Yes, can do it manually, fumbling around in the dark and tripping over things as I walk up the street, but am sure I have done this in the past.

Unfortunately it would appear that Assistant/Home has been dumbed down considerably in the last 18 months, or so, and is not capable of much of the things that it could previously do.

VERY disappointing!

Hi there,

Got it. Thanks for clarifying. Turning on lights when your phone connects to WiFi is not supported. We appreciate people who are keen on sharing their thoughts with us. We're always looking for ways to improve. I'd suggest you submit feedback about it. See the article below on how to do it.
