iDevices works with Google not working

MemoND98

Hello,

I have been a Google Home user on iOS since it pretty much started. I had installed and used several different switches, fixtures, and bulbs in my home. For bulbs I use Hue and for my fixtures and switches I have used iDevices. I have used them for about 5 years without much of a problem. Usually when I have had one I just go back and reconnect using the works with Google setup in the app and get functionality back. Last December, I noticed that all of my iDevices were offline and I could not control them in the Google Home app. I checked their functionality in Apple HomeKit and the iDevices app and they were up and working, so I went in to uninstall the connection in Google Home and then try to reinstall, like I have done in the past. I was able to complete the uninstall and when I tried to add them back I got a “iDevices linked” message immediately followed by “Something went wrong. Try again”.  Since then I have not been able to add the IDevices back to my Google Home. I contacted IDevices support and they could not find any issues on their end, since everything is working on their app and in HomeKit. I then contacted Google support and they told me that the we’re doing some updates on the system and that I should be able to add my IDevices back in about a week. That was over a month ago. I still keep getting the confirmation that iDevices is linked immediately followed y the something went wrong message. I recently uninstalled all my devices in both Google Home and HomeKit and rebuilt both homes, but I still get the same error message in Google Home for just the iDevices. Has anyone else dealt with similar issues with iDevices and Google Home?

Hi @MemoND98,

Thanks for reaching out here in the community! I'm sorry to hear that your iDevices were offline and you couldn't control them in the Google Home app. I understand how concerning this is, especially since the fixtures and switches are working fine in Apple HomeKit and the iDevices app. I'd be happy to help!

I also appreciate the workarounds you've already tried. To continue investigating the inconvenience, I'd like to confirm the following:

  • What happened after the error message 'Something went wrong. Try again.' appeared?
  • Did the iDevices app account still show as linked in the Home app, or was it completely unlinked? To confirm this, you can go to Settings and then Works with Google Home in the Google Home app.
  • Could you please provide the make and model of the devices that you're trying to add?
  • What app are you using to add the third-party devices, or are you adding them directly to the Google Home app?

Please keep me posted.

Best regards,

Jenniffer

Hello @jenniffert

Nothing happens after I get error it just goes back to the Works with Google Add Devices screen.

No, the IDevices account no longer shows up on the linked accounts page on Home.
I have several IDevices sockets, plugs, and switches. Pretty much at least one or more of everything that IDevices made.
I used the IDevices app to set up the devices and the app uses an Amazon account to set up home assistants with both Google Home and Amazon Alexa. When I go to Home to add the account it prompts me to log-in to Amazon.

I am having the exact same experience as you that started at the same time. I have tried numerous times to relink my iDevices account to Google Home on multiple devices and consistently get the “Something went wrong. Try again” error. Have you had any success resolving this on your end?

Hi @JeanN,

Thanks for reaching out here in the community! I'm sorry to hear that you're also experiencing issues when linking your iDevices account to Google Home and that you're encountering the error message “Something went wrong. Try again.” I'd be happy to help!

To further investigate this situation, it is necessary that you provide the information requested above. This will help to move the case forward.

Keep me posted.

Best regards,

Jenniffer

I am trying to relink smart plugs made by iDevices. Everything has worked reliably for years and still work with HomeKit and Alexa but recently stopped working with Google Home. When I go to Settings > Works With Google > iDevices, it logs in successfully to my Amazon account, it says iDevices linked, but then I get the “Something Went Wrong” error.  It does not show as linked and none of the switches show.

Hello @JeanN ,

I am still having the same issues. I have called both IDevices and Google support and they acted like no one else has had this issue, so it is a relief to hear somebody else is having the same issue. I basically have given up since I found it seems that IDevices is more responsive on HomeKit and Alexa. It’s just annoying that I have to use multiple apps to turn off a rooms lights.

I have the same issue. I spoke with iDevices support and they claim this has been a problem for a while. Their claim is an issue between Google and Amazon. They told me it would be better to purchase Amazon devices to control my iDevices. I think I would rather replace my iDevices as they produce the product that isn’t working correctly.  They should come up with a new way to connect their products to Google and not use Amazon as the conduit. Either way this is frustrating!

That is really disappointing. When I spoke to iDevices support in late December, they weren’t aware of any issues. I have been using Apple HomeKit as a work around to control iDevices, they seem to be more responsive with Siri than they ever were in Google Home.

I also am having this issue and have for months. I am on android. I have one Instinct switch,  2 idevices,  switches, and an idevices outlet. Since all of them go through Amazon they are no longer connecting to Google Home.

Also, I have had the apps installed on my phone for almost four years now. I wanted to try updating them but they are no longer available in the Google Play store so that tells me that Google and Amazon are having the issue since both apps make you sign in through Amazon.

Has anyone been able to fix this? If not, any suggestions on good  replacements for these products that won't give me any issues? These were installed by the builders when the home was built so I never had a choice.
