"Can't accept invite right now"

danito
Community Member

I was sent an invite from a family member to join their google home account to view nest camera's .  We both have @Gmail email accounts.   I was not to able to accept the invitation to join.  The error simply states "Can't accept invite right now".  I reached out through the app help chat to get support, and that resulted in functionally no help. They can't tell why it won't work or why the invite can not be accepted now or ever ?  So thats very frustrating that we would spend all this money on nest camera's only to not be be able to view them.   So after many hours or research I found something that stated if you have someone under the age of 13 in your family group it would not work. Ok so I created a NEW gmail account not linked to my family group and had a new invite sent to the new gmail address.  That ended in the same result "Can't accept invite right now". The only common thing is I am using the same pixel 6 android to use the HOME app.    This should not be that hard  ?

Hi Danito,

I'm sorry to hear about that. Let's get this sorted out. Is your Google Home app updated? Also, is this happening when adding multiple emails?

You can't invite anyone using a:

  • Google Workspace (formerly G Suite) account
  • Google Account for children under 13 (or the applicable age in your country)

A maximum of 6 people can share a home. You can try adding a different email to isolate.

Steve

Thanks for responding,

Both gmail accounts are not Google Workspace (formerly G Suite) accounts.  My account does have a Google Account with a  children under 13.

But and I say BUT I already created a NEW gmail account and had the invite sent to the NEW gmail account and I got the same result.  The new account is not connected to any other resource and the invite still fails.

So frustrating , what are the next steps in determining why this doesn't work?

Please advise

Hey danito,

It's us again. Were you able to reach out to our support team?

Thanks,

I did reach once again to your support team (contact number five) .  It is all a bit circular and the outcome is NEVER escalated to a higher level.  So my problem still exists, in summary:

When I try to accept the google home invite it states "can't accept the invite right now"

Both the sender and my email account are both gmail users and not g-suite authored accounts, neither account manages a child under 13.   So I am left with a product I spent a significant amount  of money on that I can not use with no resolution or method to escalate beyond basic chat help.  How helpful are video cameras if you can't view them ?The basic help troubleshooting loop> remove app, create new Gmail account, etc is not helping (repeating the same steps over and over again is not helping) .  What I need is someone at a higher level that can provide specific meaning to the underlying issue aka "root cause" .  Please Please how do I escalate to a higher level support

Hey danito,

I'm sorry for the trouble. Do you have a case ID from your interaction with our support team so I can take a closer look?

Thanks,

Hey folks,

@danito Thanks for the information. When you invite members to a home, you will also receive an email about this. Try to accept the invitation through email.

@Cameron2708 Try the suggested steps above and let us know how it goes.

Thanks,

Archie

Accepting the invite over mail does not work either, it just refers me to download the Google home app on my mobile.  When I try from gmail on my mobile it just opens the home app, and the result is the same. "can't accept invite right now".     All very circular and not helpful ,   rise and repeat behavior.

Hey danito,

I'm sorry for the trouble. To confirm, how many family members have already been added to the device? Try to clear cache, then force close the Google Home app. Once done, reboot your phone to refresh the connection. If that doesn't work, try to reboot your camera by unplugging it from the wall outlet to see if that helps.

Thanks,

Archie

Thanks for the "clear cache" suggestion as that was a NEW one. However I followed your instructions and 1. clear cache, 2. force close of home app, 3. reboot.   After the reboot I am still unable to except the invite to join google home, no difference in behavior.

In terms of google home membership it only contains one member I am told, my spouse.

The saga continues.  😞

I am sorry to hear the previous troubleshooting didn't work for you! For clarification, do you have more 5 devices in your account already? And does your spouse have 5 devices added to their account already? I ask because when you you do have more than 5 devices on the Home app, you would need to create another account with google home to add that 6th device, and 7th, and 8th, etc. I am just wondering if this is the case with you and your spouses account? This error has come up in that situation before I have seen.

Brad

I have given up on trying to resolve this problem, it clearly doesn't work and there doesn't appear to be a way to identify the root cause ., which is really too bad and very disappointing.

To answer the previous question, the account has under five devices

Hey danito,

I'm sorry for the delay. Let's try this — declined all invitation, then advise the family member to try again. Also, what's the Google Home app version you're using? Keep us posted.

Thanks,

Archie

I have had this problem for years and through multiple homes. Today I was able to resolve.  These are the steps I took in order, so I'm not sure if just the last thing is what fixed it are if all of these steps need to be taken.

1.  Deleted my home and created a new one (I would not do this first as I don't think this step is needed).

2.  Removed all linked services from my account (i.e. Roku, Wyze, etc.)

3. On the phone receiving the invite, declined it (when I did, I noticed another pending invite so declined that add well).

After that I invited them again and they were able to accept. I was also able to invite another person and they were able to accept as well. This seems to have completely fixed the issue that I was facing for the last few years.
