Hey everyone,

Last year we committed to bringing a desktop experience to our users, and we wanted to share a quick update on that commitment.

This week, we’ll be rolling out a Google Home update on home.google.com that lets you view your Nest camera and doorbell feeds on the web.* You can easily check in on live views in full screen, zoom in to see more details, view camera status, and more all from your web browser. Google Home for web will be available as a preview as we continue to work on improving it and adding more popular camera features.

*Note: If you don’t have access right away, continue to check back and let us know if you still don’t have access next week.

How does Google Home for web work?

  1. Go to home.google.com on your desktop computer.
  2. Sign in with the same Google account you use in the Google Home app.
  3. Immediately view live streams from your cameras.
  4. Toggle between a single camera view and multi-camera view.

What can I live stream?

  • View live streams of all your Nest cameras and doorbells.
  • View the live stream of one camera at a time.
  • View full-screen to see more details of what’s happening.

What can I control?

  • Turn cameras on or off.
  • Wake up battery cameras when they are inactive (Note: They may time out to save battery).
  • View status of cameras: on/off, inactive, and offline.

*What cameras and doorbells are compatible?

  • Nest Cam (battery) and Nest Cam (wired)
  • Nest Cam with floodlight (wired)
  • Nest Doorbell (battery), Nest Doorbell (wired), and Nest Doorbell (wired, 2nd gen)
  • Nest Cam Indoor and Nest Cam Outdoor
  • Nest Cam IQ Indoor and Nest Cam IQ Outdoor

We’re eager to hear what you think of Google Home for web as we build it out, so please use the Send Feedback link in the menu at home.google.com to share your thoughts with us. For more info on getting set up, check out our support center.

We hope you enjoy these new updates!

+1 for history review and creating clips.  Reviewing history events is much easier on a desktop screen than on a smartphone ... except that it's not supported.

Very glad to see a long overdue web interface in development.  Hoping that the Nest Protects will be added to both the Home phone app and the web interface

What about 3rd party cameras that are already supported on the Google Home app preview?  Will their feed be visible also on the web page as it is on the new app?

@Umberto that is a great question.  I would love to see that as well.  However I have to say I have a few cameras from EUFY that show up in the app and also on the Google Hub but when I try to access them the almost never show the video feed. I just get a black screen and a spinning wheel.  It has been this way for at least 6 months.

I cannot see any way to view timeline or history in the browser view. Only current live stream is visible. There used to be (in the old Nest web page) not only the history but a way to view and create clips as well as a timeline view (not just event thumbnails). Google home is so much less functional than Nest it is still really disappointing. At least timeline has finally been added to the Home app, though still no way to create clips there either.

@Bluebird2 Google says it is a feature they expect to release after July 2023 (Fingers Crossed)

Hello,

I am wondering if there is any update on getting history/activities to be available on the google home web/pc site?  If there has been activity on my camera, I prefer to look at a larger screen (laptop or monitor) vs my phone app.

Recently upgraded our Nest Cameras and so far happy with them.  Just need this add'l feature added to Web/PC site.

Thanks

How to see video history on the web interface? I only see live feed. I do see event history in mobile app only

@Trolala  That feature has still not been made available from Google.  And as I look around at all the various user sites (including this one) there does not appear to be any confirmed rumors that this is happening anytime soon.  I'm VERY frustrated by this as well.  <Heavy Sigh>

I have added a new Nest camera to my home (wired with floodlight), but I only see it in my Google Home app. I am using the Nest app and web, but I can not find any options to add this new camera to Nest app.

I am using the same Google account on Nest and google home. I see all cameras on Google Home, but only 3 old cameras on Nest.

Does anyone know if it is possible to add new Nest floodlight to Nest app? I did try to add new device using NEST interface, but nest app redirect me to google home.

I have NestAware subscription and the Nest interface is definitely better, compare to the one in google home.

@Trolala

You have discovered what many of us have discovered. The newer Google Nest cameras and doorbells released starting in Sept. 2021 can only be installed and administered in the Google Home app.

This is Google Nest's explanation from Sept. 2021:

So just to make sure I have this straight.

Any current-generation Nest cam doesn't show up in Nest, only Google Home.

Google Home is in preview only and lacks the ability to view history, a feature that Nest had for at least the last 5 years??? (Only talking about the web view, not the mobile app)

<Shakes head> Oh Google what happened here...

I can add more…

you can see old cameras on Google home, but no history or events shown on Google home at all. Only live feed. I have all 5 cameras on Nest aware and can see old cameras on nest interface - web or mobile

the new latest and greatest, wired Google camera does not trigger an event when person works on the back yard only when person  are at least 3 feet from camera.  Old cameras do trigger person in the same location without any problem. Deer and bears do not trigger events  either

Where I can get old cameras???

@Trolala

One correction: we can see EVENT history in the Google Home app for our older Nest app cameras, by clicking on the ellipsis (3 dots) in the upper right corner and then clicking on "Full history".

Also, our battery camera--plugged in with the optional power cable--and our 2nd gen indoor camera trigger daytime events about as well as our older Nest app cameras. At night, the battery camera doesn't do as well.

I have subscription with 10 days full history, but additional menu only show 10 sec events clips…. On Nest I see 24x7 history…

@Trolala

Yes, I said that when clicking on "Full History" in the Google Home app, we get EVENT video history; I acknowledge that only in the Google Nest app and on the home.nest.com website can we access 24/7 history.  I was merely responding to your statement that there was "no history or events" for older cameras in the Google Home app.  By the way, our clips for our older cameras in the Google Home app vary substantially in length, and can be several minutes long, depending on the event.

Wow, this really is a good lesson in how not to implement a new app, bit by bit, month by painful month. Meanwhile we all go out and buy new cameras, the find they won't work with the old app, and won't even work properly on a desktop with the new app. Just stunning in its incompetence. Nice one Google.

Had I known the new Google cameras are not compatable with the Nest app and that the Google Home on the web won't show history or other, I would not have purchased the two devices.

Google - this is BS!

The recent upgrade of the Home app can now has Expanded support for the first generation Nest Cam https://www.googlenestcommunity.com/t5/Blog/New-updates-to-Google-Home-for-camera-users-new-AI-image... and can display video feed history - kudos.

But please now upgrade home.google.com to be able to also display video feed history like in home.nest.com so I don't have to rely on my 4" phone screen to review history footage - or provide an alternate method to review video history on a PC browser.

I see the new garage door open feature in the software.  But I'm wondering if anyone sees the CUSTOMER CLIPS option appearing?  I don't see it anywhere.  All I'm seeing is the normal SAVE CLIP to the iPhone photo album.   I'm on  Google Home version 3.10.103 and I am in the Preview program.

Am I missing something?  Or is this feature still pending?
