Hello Google Nest Community,
This week, we’ll begin rolling out expanded support for the first generation Nest Cam Outdoor in the Google Home app, the ability to create custom clips, and new AI powered garage door detection to Public Preview. These new updates are part of our continued commitment to make the Google Home app the single best place to set up and control your smart home, especially with its redesigned camera experience, new camera based home automations, more places to view your cameras like Wear OS / Web and expanded support for our first generation Nest Cam Indoor.

New features rolling out to Public Preview in the Google Home app:
Expanded support for the first generation Nest Cam Outdoor.
We’re excited to begin rolling out expanded support for the original Nest Cam Outdoor in the Google Home app starting today. Over the next several weeks, we’ll roll out access to Public Preview users with Nest Cam Outdoor. Once you transfer your device to the Google Home app, you’ll have more help finding the footage that matters to you thanks to our new camera history experience with event list and timeline views (two images below right).
Learn how to transfer your Nest Cam Outdoor and try the new experience in the FAQ here.
Create and download custom clips from your video history.
Capture and share important moments with new custom clips. Trim an existing event video clip by simply picking a start time and selecting the clip length from a set of options. If you have 24/7 continuous video history with a Nest Aware Plus subscription and a compatible Nest Cam or Doorbell, you’ll be able to download custom length clips from any part of your video history using the same steps.
Custom clips will begin to roll out this week to Public Preview in the Google Home app and will be available on Nest Cam (indoor, wired, 2nd gen), Nest Cam (outdoor or indoor, battery), Nest Cam with Floodlight, Nest Doorbell (wired, 2nd gen), Nest Doorbell (battery), and Nest Cam Indoor (1st gen) and Nest Cam Outdoor (1st gen) once transferred to the Home app.
With new intelligence, your Nest Cam can tell you when you forgot to close the garage.
This week we’re adding even more peace of mind for Nest Cam users with the addition of our newest intelligent alert, garage door detection. For anyone that has left home or gone to bed and wondered if you remembered to close the garage, compatible Nest Cams can now notify you if you forgot to close your garage, no additional hardware or sensors required. We’ve expanded our advanced AI powered image detection and improved built-in on device intelligence to detect if your garage door has been left open.
Garage door detection will begin to roll out this week to Public Preview in the Google Home app in the US and Canada to users that have a Nest Aware subscription and own a Nest Cam (indoor, wired, 2nd gen) or a Nest Cam (battery) when wired for power.

And we're not done yet...
For our doorbell users, holiday themes will be coming back to Nest doorbells starting December 1st. And for those viewing Nest cameras and doorbells in a browser, we’re working on adding event and timeline history, along with the ability to download clips on Google Home for web. Stay tuned for more details.
We hope you enjoy these updates and as always please keep the feedback coming and join the discussion as you try them out in Preview.
Thanks,
Adina Roth, Product Manager, Google Home & Nest
Note: Public Preview features in the Google Home app are early and not complete. They may have issues that can cause the app to behave unexpectedly or not perform as well as the standard app. You can opt out of the Public Preview program at any time, but we do not provide the ability to turn off individual features.
