Hey everyone,

As you may have seen in our announcement earlier this month, Google Nest Wifi Pro (Wi-Fi 6E) is now available for purchase on the Google Store. We’re excited to bring Wi-Fi 6E to your homes starting at $199.99. We know that with new technology comes new changes, so we highlighted some things you should know:

Why Wi-Fi 6E?

Nest Wifi Pro is built with Wi-Fi 6E, a new Wi-Fi standard that has several benefits over previous generations of Wi-Fi. Key benefits of Wi-Fi 6E include:

  • A new 6 GHz wireless radio to allow more data to flow through your router and deliver faster device speeds, up to 5.4 Gbps (4.2 Gbps outside of US) combined.
  • Wider 6 GHz channels with far lower radio interference to ensure a more responsive and faster connectivity experience for Wi-Fi 6E devices.
  • Upgraded performance for your entire network regardless of whether you have 6 GHz-capable client devices or not. With the Nest Wifi Pro’s mesh network running on 6 GHz, every device in your network will benefit from the faster, more robust infrastructure.
  • Nest Wifi Pro not only works with products you have today, it also has the tech to make the most out of the next generation of phones, laptops, and more.

Take advantage of control at your fingertips

Nest Wifi Pro is easy to set up and manage through the Google Home app. With network controls, you can manage your home's network right from your smartphone, create a guest network, and share the network password right from the app. The parental and device controls allow you to control online time for the kids, block explicit content, and prioritize which devices should get the fastest speeds.

A system that self-monitors, diagnoses, and can even fix itself

Wi-Fi issues can be frustrating, and most people want a Wi-Fi experience that’s “set it and forget it.” Nest Wifi Pro proactively scans for and diagnoses issues, and can even fix common network problems on its own, so you don’t have to. For example, it lets you know if a simple fix, like replacing a bad Ethernet cable, can improve your network’s performance by sending a notification from the Google Home app or through your Google Home Feed.

Keep in mind: New Tech Needs New Hardware

Nest Wifi Pro takes a big step forward in terms of wireless technology compared to earlier generations of Nest Wifi or Google Wifi mesh systems. While offering direct-to-client 6 GHz connections, Nest Wifi Pro also uses the 6 GHz band to form its mesh network. However, earlier generation Nest and Google Wifi products use the 5 GHz band for mesh connections. This means that Nest Wifi Pro can't be combined with earlier versions of Nest Wifi or Google Wifi routers or points in a single mesh network. You can learn more about this on our Help Center

The Google Nest Wifi Pro (Wi-Fi 6E) is an upgrade but including smart speakers (and the ability to make the smart speakers active or inactive) would have been optimal. That said, tri-band connectivity is a definitely a move in the right direction in terms of coverage.

Just bought and tried to install the new Google Wifi Nest Pro and experienced the same errors as multiple users have before when adding additional points in order to set up a mesh (and are commented on this forum);(googlemac_iphone_Home_Wifi_Operations_Impl_Impl.PollForCompletionOperationImplerror 0.)

I think its strange that Google still hasn’t fixed this issue when it has been persistent for so many years. And yes; I have read through various forums and tries all different types of advices and «hacks», and none of them work. Extremely annoying, and at the point where I am considering going back to my old 1st gen Google Mesh system.

I am definitely annoyed that I sold my eeros and bought the nest wifi pros only to find out that these new expensive devices dropped the speaker(heck just having a mic would have been good with me) I wanted to create a system where Google could hear my requests from the whole house...but I guess that was too much to add for $400... ridiculous

Just installed two of them today.

So far I am enjoying these! 🤗

How do I get their 30% off deal? I’m an existing customer with 4 Google hubs and haven’t received anything.

Had the eero pro 6e mesh system and was having issues with TV buffering, Google homes had to be asked 4-5 times before would answer, phone apps would take forever to open so decided to try Nest Wifi Pro. So far love it. All issues I had with Eero are gone. Very happy.

Hi @Opac

I did set it up with an Android device.
Connected the second unit with an ethernet cable so the "mesh" connection is "great".

I purchased the 3-pack Google Nest Wifi Pro (Wi-Fi 6E) and can't get 2 of the point to connect. The Home App throws an error message and can't even find the new points. I'm using iOS devices to install/connect them.

I plug back in my old Nest WiFi router and points (4 total) things work just fine. Clearly the Home App and the new Nest WiFi Pro's need more work.

Hey @srl7741

. Mine did the same thing. I had to leave it plugged in for a bit until the light turned blue on it and then the app found it no problem. Connection was weak at first and then it did an automatic update and everything worked great (minus not having a mic/speakers which I totally did not expect lol

Disappointed so far.

They do look the business but performance is poor.

I have three installed with ethernet backhaul on a 1Gbps connection. With the BT discs I would get a fairly consistent 500Mbps. With these, even when right next to the device I get 300Mbps, maybe 400Mbps.

Now I know my devices are WiFi 6 not 6E, but nonetheless performance should be much better.

Problem Solved:

I was using iOS devices to install the Nest WiFi Pro and had "iCloud Private Relay" on. I turned that off and went through the install process again. The install process went fine no issues, a software update was even installed prior to finishing and going through a Mesh Test. The Mesh test showed "Great Connection" between the Points.

My speeds are double what they were with the previous nest WiFi and 4 Points.

You must use the Google Home app to control a Nest learning Thermostat. This app is not available for a Windows PC. Therefore it is not possible to control a Nest Thermostat from a Windows PC.

This is not true

It is possible to control a Nest thermostat on a Windows PC without using the Google Nest app.

It is possible to set a Nest icon on the desktop that connects to a Nest learning thermostat so one can control the Thermostat from a Windows Desktop

The trick is to connect to your thermostat with Firefox, bookmark it, then set that page to open when Firefox opens, then pin Firefox to your desktop and change the Firefox icon to a Nest icon.

Now when you click on the Nest icon you will connect to your Nest thermostat and you will be able control it.

I should have added above to get to your Nest Thermostat from Firefox enter "home.nest.com" in the Firefox address bar, when the thermostat comes up bookmark it , then go to Firefox settings and set Firefox to open with the last site then go to the bookmarked site and close Firefox. Next time Firefox opens it will go to the Nest Thermostat.

Correction to above

In Firefox settings do not check "Open previous windows and tabs, rather go to "HOME" and copy and paste your  Nest address from the bookmark under "CUSTOM URLs

Just replaced the old Google Nest WiFi with the new Nest WiFi Pro, which I have only had up for 24 hours. I have a large area to cover, 7500 square feet, and an old house with high ceilings. It was built in 1900 and filled iron gas line pipes inside the walls and thick beams running throughout.

I purchased 2 3-packs. The first 3 arrived yesterday. After setting and configuiring the routers, the WiFi was great. This afternoon the second 3-pack arrived. I decided just to go ahead and place them in the network. Everthing also seems to work very well.

I am wondering why Google recommends a maximum of 5  Nest WiFi routers to a network. What am I risking by adding a sixth router?

Because they say it reduces performance. It's in the blurb

@charlesbarrettc The reason using more than 5 is not recommended is because Nest Wifi uses a "fewest hops" approach to getting traffic to its destination, so if one of your routers can get even a weak connection to your primary router, it will use that instead of going through another intermediate router. If you think you're going to need that many, a wired connection to each of your routers would be significantly more reliable (typically known as wired backhaul). If that's not possible, it's essentially a must to have your router centrally placed. Typically, it just won't be enough if the most distant routers are far away and if you really need that many routers, only wiring them is going to make the performance in that kind of setup satisfactory.

Hi there,

I have been using the Nest Wifi for the past 3 years and just upgraded to the Nest Wifi Pro.  My Internet service provider is Bell FIBE which under Nest Wifi, I was able to get anywhere from 500 to 900 mbps download.  I was looking forward to the update of Nest Wifi Pro and found that after me switching to it, my download speed has been limited to a max of 250 mbps while my upload speed was twice as such.  Have been testing the speed at various time and the download speed just seems to be ‘stuck’ or ‘limited’ by Nest Wfi Pro.  Is there anyone else experiencing the same as I?  Any advice or suggestions?

Thanks all!

@J-Y It can sometimes take a day or so for things to adjust. Try restarting your entire network in the app:

Restart Google Nest or Google Wifi devices - Google Nest Help

If that doesn't work, try powering off your routers, and any modem equipment provided by your ISP. Turn the modem back on first, and wait for it to be back online, then try turning your routers back on.

Are the routers in the same physical positions as your old points?

Hi All and @David_K,

Thanks for the advice.  I have reset my modem and completely restart, as well as factory reset on my new set of Nest Wifi Pro.  After testing for about a week, my Google Home App continued to show a consistent of upload speed around 250 mps while my download speed is double of such.  After all these, I put my old Nest Wifi and reset the network, for two days in a row, I continue to receive what I used to have, prior ‘upgrading’ to Nest Wifi Pro.

It is disappointing to see the upgraded version failing to provide what it should do.  I will return the Nest Wifi Pro.

Hello,

I just want to know before I buy Nest WiFi Pro, can I force the router to use 6GHz only ? and is this also possible with 5GHz ?

I've been a Nest Wifi owner for about 2 years. Can I still get the 30% rebate offer for purchase of Nest Wifi Pro?

Yes, I think it is thru January. I think you have to use a email Google sent you though. Not totally sure on that.

Major nightmare. Got this new Nest Wifi Pro as an upgrade for my non-techie neighbor across the street. I thought Nest would be the easiest for them to use. They have had nothing but headaches.

First weird problem. Inconsistent speed without any explanation. Using Ookla speedtest, from the exact same location, sometimes full speed of 200 Mbit/s and other times down to 30 Mbit/s or less. Same exact physical location!

Second weird problem. We put the Nest Wifi in one spot at first - and - two rooms in the house had crap reception. Like 10 Mbit/s down. I moved the Nest 4 feet along a wall, and suddenly the dead rooms get full speed. As a test, I changed the orientation of the Nest by 90 degrees, and got lower speed?!@#!@.

Nobody else is using Wifi in the house during testing. This is very frustrating. If my neighbor experiences more problems I must return this and get something else. The old Google wifi that I replaced was more reliable. Seems like Google did not bother to QA this device before shipping.

Details: New York State, Optimum cable, 200 Mbit/s down/40 Mbit/s up, Arris modem, 2100 sq foot house

Trick_Daddy-Did the firmware update after install? A lot of my issues are gone now after the update.

Trick_Daddy

@Thespore- We had these problems last weekend. I believe there was supposed to be a firmware update a couple weeks ago, but there is no way to tell if the firmware has updated. Google is so cool that they do not let you check for updates anymore in the Google Home interface. We restarted the Nest Wifi Pro a couple times last weekend, so I can only assume the firmware is up to date. I would have forced an update if I could.

I wish Google would give the users some visibility into what the technical details, so maybe I could see what was happening.

If this Nest WiFi worked as well as my Eero, then I would not care about the crappy interface. My Eero is far more stable and informative. I am giving this Nest Wifi Pro device 1 more week to show the same rock solid performance as the Eero. If we are not solid as a rock by this weekend, back to the store and no more Nest WiFi.

@Trick_DaddyYou can tell what firmware you have from app. New version is 1.63.324946. If that is what you have then you have latest.

Funny you mention Eero. I had Eero Pro 6e and got rid of it. None of google homes worked and TV apps buffered 1 minute before would stream. Eero support had me put all on guest network (which worked) but thats not a solution to me.

Hi, i bought the google nest pro wifi with 2 satellites. My download speed is still just below 50mbps.

Will we receive a fix for this? I have used other speed tests and get the same result.

When testing with my router that is connected to my isp, my fibre speed is 500mbps

Will appreciate some advise

Thank you

Installed Google Nest Pro 6e and 2 “extenders”.
Ungraded from Google Wifi gen 1.

Now can’t get about 1/2 my Google speakers (yes some “older” ones) to connect to Wifi.
Google Home app finds and says they are installed THEN says they cannot communicate with my iPhone.
Does the Google Nest Pro 6e NOT support the older Google speakers?

HAVE tried all the trouble shooting steps I can find.

Can’t find write up about this issue.
HELP HELP

 Thanks in advance.
