2 Nest Doorbells 2nd Gen (Wired), no chime

nestfreak

I just attempted to install 2 of the wired Nest Doorbells without a chime and want to know if I did it right -- does anyone have a wiring diagram? I have the 3 FTR wires from where a chime once was (previous homeowners removed it...we get a lot of door-to-door people in our neighborhood...). Currently get power (solid green light) to one of the doorbells but the camera cuts out and most of the time never gives a live view. The other gets blinking yellow. I already am planning on upgrading my transformer (from 16V 10VAC to 16V 30VAC). Is that all I need to do to fix the camera not providing a live view even on the one that is solid green or is that a separate issue?

I also have a Nest Cam Floodlight that worked well for two days and now gives me 1 or 2 seconds of livestream before it cuts out. My internet speeds (12Mbps UP 200+ DOWN) should be plenty fast enough. The only other thing I can think of is I live in Minnesota and temps are about 22 degrees currently but these aren't running off of battery and it's well above the -4 degrees they're supposed to work at. Thoughts?

Thanks

@nestfreak

These are Google Nest's thermostat requirements, along with some wiring diagrams. We upgraded to a 15V 30VA transformer years ago when we got a second Nest Hello doorbell.

I’d be interested in the process to setup 2 doorbell wired, 2nd gen with no chime at all.  I plan on using a Nest Audio as a chime if that will work

Hi Nyoung, I ended up installing mine essentially the same way you'd install it with a chime, just *without the chime*. So where the wires would typically connect to the chime, they just connect to each other. In my situation I had a chime box where the chime had previously been removed but all the wires were there. After a little poking around to figure out which wires were which (Front, Transformer, Back, etc), I connected them together as shown in the app (just without the chime). Everything appears to be working fine and I haven't had any issues so far! Maybe I'm wrong but I think the chime connectors will handle the power regulation with or without the chime itself in place.

Hello everybody,

@Nyoung thanks for getting back to us. I understand if you don't have a chime. You can receive notifications from your speaker by turning on the visitor announcement which I have shared above. In case you have an update, you know where to find us.

@nestfreak we appreciate you sharing with us what steps you've done to resolved the issue.  Let us know if you have more questions in mind.

Regards,
Emerson

Hey Nyoung,

Thanks for posting here in the community. I understand that you wanted to use your Nest Doorbells with your Nest Audio. You can do that by enabling the visitor announcement.

Thanks Emerson, as I run through the doorbell install app it doesn't let me select an option for "no chime".  How do I get around this?

Hey Nyoung,

During setup there's really no option to select no chime. The chime connector allows the chime's wires to deliver constant power to the  Nest Doorbell (wired, 2nd gen) and Nest Doorbell (wired) and protects your chime from damage. In addition, without the chime connector, you might experience chime buzzing or unexpected chimes. After you installed your chime connector you have to finish the setup through your Google Home app and do the steps from the links I shared above.

Let us know how it goes.

Thanks,
Emerson

Emerson, thank you for responding but you aren't understanding.  I do NOT have a chime and I do NOT want a chime.  I want a Nest doorbell wired, gen 2, and a nest speaker.  I want notifications on the speaker and my phone, that is it.  I will try how @nestfreak said they installed it and see if it works.  Google needs to understand that people might want to install a video doorbell without a chime installed.  I will run the low power wiring from a 16v 30VA transformer directly to the Nest doorbell.  With no chime
