Added family members on Google Home app and they're not getting notifications

Added a family member on Google Home app and they're not getting notifications. They have full access to all the Google Home devices such as Chromecasts and lights and they are able to control them but NOT  the Doorbell.

It works as expected for me. I added the device.

Does your family member have the app installed and  and connected to your home on their phone or tablet? If so have them open the home app and go to settings - notifications - Camera notifications - (Select the doorbell camera) and check that "Push Notifications" is on and the "Away-only notifications" is turned off.

They do have the app on their phone. When we go to Settings, Notifications, the camera is not there.

I have already attempted to delete them from the Home and add them back with no changes.

Any other suggestions?

Hi Takispep,

Thanks for posting in the community!

I'm so sorry to hear that your family member isn’t receiving notifications or seeing the Nest Doorbell camera in settings. Let's work on this together! Just to get started, I have a couple of questions that will allow me to understand this situation better. Can you help me answer them?

  • What is the model of your Nest Doorbell?
  • What email domain does your family member use?
  • Is your family member able to see the live video without any difficulty?
  • Are the Google Home app versions the same on both devices?
  • Have you tried using a different device?
  • As a test, have you tried inviting another family member with a different email address?

In the meantime, if you have more questions for me, feel free to reply to this post. I'll be happy to assist further!

Best regards,

Nery.

I am having the same issue with a gen 1 Nest Doorbell.  I'm able to see the option to turn on/off push notifications but no one in my family is able to see the option.  I have removed and re-added the device to the Google Home app and still I am the only one who has the option to receive push notifications.

Hi Chess1,

Thanks for posting in the community!

I'm so sorry to hear that your family members are not receiving push notifications and that they're not seeing the option to turn on the push notifications on their device. Let's work on this together! Just to start, can you please help answer the next questions?

  • What app do you and your family members use to access the cameras (the Google Home app or the Nest app)?
  • Are the Google Home or Nest app versions the same on all devices?
  • Has the camera been moved recently?
  • Have any family members received notifications in the past?
  • Can your family members see events recorded by the camera?

With this information, I'll be able to provide you with some useful troubleshooting steps!

In the meantime, if you have more questions for me, feel free to reply to this post. I'll be happy to assist further!

Best regards,

  • What app do you and your family members use to access the cameras (the Google Home app or the Nest app)? They all use the Google Home app to access the cameras.  The camera used to be in the Nest app but has been transferred to the Home app.  I even removed the device and re-added it under Home only.
  • Are the Google Home or Nest app versions the same on all devices? The versions are all the same
  • Has the camera been moved recently? As stated above, it WAS in the Nest app but has been moved to the Home app.  Completely deleted the camera from Home and re-added it and only my account see the option for push notifications.  My wife's phone, under her account which is set up as a manager in Home app, shows nothing when looking in the Notifications sections of the camera.
  • Have any family members received notifications in the past? My daughter said she did receive them in the Nest app but no longer receives from the Home app>
  • Can your family members see events recorded by the camera?  Yes, they see recorded events.

Hi Chess1,

Thanks for your reply and for sharing all this useful information!

I'm curious about something you mentioned. You said you transferred your Nest Doorbell (wired) from the Nest app to the Google Home app. Just to confirm, are you part of the Public Preview for the Google Home app? Is your family part of the Public Preview too?

In the meantime, if you have more questions for me, feel free to reply to this post. I'll be happy to assist further!

I honestly didn't think about the Public Preview.  I've been in it so long that I didn't even consider it as a reason.  And you are correct....my wife was not in the Public Preview.  I added her last night and this morning she now has the push notification settings and has access to the zone setup.  I'll have to do the same on my daughter's phone.  Thanks for helping!!!!!

Hi Chess1,

Thanks for getting back to me!

I'm glad to hear your wife can now access push notifications and activity zone settings! It's great that I could help. Sometimes it's easy to forget about the Public Preview when we've been using it for a while.

Please don't hesitate to reply to this post if you have any other questions. I'll be happy to assist further!

Best regards,

Nery.

wow had been spending the whole evening trying to figure out why my family were not getting notifications. It was the public preview indeed. Thanks!
