Alexa Not Announcing Nest Doorbell 2nd Gen (wired) Person Events

Alexa is not announcing Nest Doorbell 2nd Gen (wired) person events.  Alexa does announce motion events (but I don't want to keep these on) and I can access the doorbell through the Alexa App.  I've reviewed the doorbell support docs and settings in both apps several times.   Step 8 in the support doc isn't accurate, there are only doorbell press and motion announcement options in the Alexa app...not a person announcement option.  Please help.

Great. This has been a deficiency for a long time per this blog.   Google, fix your Nest Skill....or at least clean up your docs.

Hello MauiPowellDog,

Thanks for reaching out here in the Community. Try reinstalling your Google Home app to make sure you have the updated version. Restart your Nest Doorbell. Then try the given steps from the link you've shared.

To restart:

  1. Locate the reset pinhole on the back of your Nest Doorbell.

Tip: The reset pin on the Nest Doorbell 2nd gen (wired) is located above the QR code on the back of your Nest Doorbell.
  2. Press and hold for 5 seconds.
  3. Your Nest Doorbell will restart, and the status light will be steady, solid white.

Let us know how it goes.

Regards,

Emerson

Person events work fine with the doorbell and Google Home app. I get proper notifications on my phone.  The  google nest alexa skill / integration is the issue. I don’t understand how resetting the doorbell and reinstalling the app would help.  As noted above the nest skill docs are wrong. There isn’t a person announcement to enable in the skill.

Hey MauiPowellDog,

We appreciate you getting back to us. To confirm, have you tried contacting the support team of Amazon Alexa about this? You may ask them if there are any settings from their app that you can enable to make it work. You may reinstall your Google Home app to make sure you have the latest version.

Best,

Emerson
