Awful cameras and doorbell

I purchased 4 Google nest cameras (battery) and 1matching doorbell. All are connected by an electrician by hard wiring (so no reliance on battery).  Also purchased 2 Google home hubs to access live footage of cameras and doorbell.

They are all absolutely awful and an utter waste of a lot of money. If a notification comes up on my phone I am never able to actually see what is there as the cameras as they are “unreachable or unavailable”

I just get a spinning wheel and then the the message “Live video is unavailable. The camera is unreachable or saving battery”

they are hard wired in so it’s not a battery issue. I have full and strong WiFi so that is not an issue. I have rebooted, re-set and also gone back and done a factory reset too and the issue remains. I have also now put the whole system on a purely 2.4ghz (IoT) and it is still rubbish.

I have seriously fast high end (Orbi 9 series wi-fi 6) mesh network so a signal is not an issue. I even installed an external satellite to make sure that a weak signal was not to blame.

previously I had the wired Nest cameras which were fantastic. Why on gods earth Google changed these and the app is beyond me. They are utterly useless now and not fit for purpose. Same with the doorbell. Somebody calls at the house and I can’t access the live feed and by the time anything does come up the person/parcel are long gone. So frustrating.

then there is the Google help… what a joke. I was on a chat for ages and somebody was coming back to me within 24hours… 2 weeks later NOTHING.

I Have just placed an order for a new system with another brand. I will basically be throwing about £1200 in the bin. So frustrated and angry.

I totally agree here with you mate. It is absolutely ridiculous that all you get is a simple notification ding rather than the doorbell actually ringing you like most of the doorbells do. Also, the other doorbells cost a fraction of the Google ones. I have spoke with Google directly about this in the past and they are so completely indifferent that it's very irritating.

I've also had mad trouble with the thermostat which I think was also a waste of money.

An update on previous post. I switched out my Google Nest Cameras (battery) and Google Doorbell (battery) today and replaced them all with Ring Spotlight Cameras and a Ring doorbell. All connected first time and have not dropped an image, missed a notification. All working perfect. I knew there was nothing wrong with my Wifi. The Google products are completely un fit for purpose. Total waste of money.
