Battery doorbell issues

Seem to be having an issue with our doorbell (battery)

Received a notification in the home app (someone walking by) but when trying to load the live stream, I get the "live video unavailable. Camera may be unreachable or saving battery" message.

Come back to it a while later and live stream still brings up this message.

There has also been no recordings saved during this time, but plenty going on in front of camera.

Battery is at 40% so not dead. The green light on the camera Is permanently on.

I removed the doorbell and brought inside... Left for a while unplugged and green light remains.

Then plugged in for a while and green light remains still. It also doesn't make the usual noise when you first plug it in to charge.

Pressing the doorbell button plays the doorbell sound rather than telling you the battery charge %. It does not notify on phone or speakers that the doorbell has been pressed.

I've tried to reset it but it doesn't do anything and the green light remains.

It's like it's stuck and I can't do anything about it?

Any thoughts?

Also to note, similar happened last week. We couldn't load the livestream and received the same msg when trying to view it but we ignored it as we were going to bed.

We woke in the morning to the battery being completed drained, but it was at 50%+ the night before, presumably it froze and drained itself.

It's a few years old now, first issues with it

Thanks

Hey Emmajc11,

We are investigating a potential issue with firmware version 1.77 causing some Nest Doorbell (Battery) devices to lose charge quickly when connected to a transformer. We have initiated a rollback that should reach all users by Saturday (Aug 30, 2025) evening.

The minimum battery charge needed for firmware updates is 10%. If your device’s battery is below 10%, please unmount the doorbell and plug it into a USB-C charger (a standard 5W charger should work). After the doorbell hits > 10% charge, it will download the updated firmware (v1.75c) automatically. Once you verify the updated firmware version (1.75c) using the Google Home app, you can reconnect your device to the transformer wires and mounting bracket.

If you are still encountering this issue after the rollback, can you let us know by responding to this post?

Regards,

Byron
