Best Cam IQ won’t factory reset

Unclebug
Community Member

I installed a Nest Cam IQ and it worked fine for a couple minutes.  Suddenly it disconnected and I reset the WiFi and the power but it wouldn’t reconnect.  I took a pin and tried the factory reset but it did nothing.  When unplug the camera and plug it back it, the blue ring appears for a second and then goes away, then I have no indicator lights at all.  I tried plugging another camera I have into that power chord and it worked fine.  I tried plugging the questionable camera into another working power chord and had the same issues with the camera.  What can I do now?

Google Nest quit selling their IQ cameras sometime in 2021 or sooner (I think), so were you reinstalling this camera? Was it operating fine before this install? How recently? How old is it? Is in a Nest Cam IQ Outdoor or Nest Cam IQ Indoor?  Are the connections for the power cable loose or damaged? How did the install process in the Google Nest app go? Had it been successfully factory reset previously, yielding a spinning blue light ring, followed by a chime and a pulsing blue light ring (https://support.google.com/googlenest/answer/9252162?hl=en&sjid=2461668035141250664-NC#zippy=%2Cnest...)?

We were donated the cameras new years ago for our non profit, I’m just now able to install them.  This one was new out of the box, I put it up today and it stopped working today.

Oh!  Well, if it's been sitting on a shelf for several years, its firmware is probably several years out of date. Maybe you could just leave it plugged in for a couple of days to see if it updates.

The factory reset--as documented--doesn't work?

You could also try plugging in the connections several times, just in case there's a little bit of unseen corrosion from sitting around for a few years, that's preventing a good connection.

Those are my amateur suggestions.

Or maybe another customer has ideas about what can happen if a camera isn't installed for several years.

Or you could try contacting Support and see if they have any suggestions:

1. Go to https://support.google.com/googlenest/gethelp.
2. Select a category/product family, and type in a brief description of the issue, then click "Next".
3. Click "Other", then click "Next step".
4. Under "Resources", just click "Next step". (Clicking one of the listed links will bring up a Help page page.)
5. Under "Contact options", choose to get a phone call or chat with the team, depending on availability in your country.

I have left the camera plugged in and it still hasn’t worked.  I’ve u plugged it multiple times to try to reset it as well.  I keep getting a NC023 error when trying to add it to my Nest and Home accounts.  Tomorrow I will try the whole process again and follow up.  It’s something specific with that camera, I have 3 other cameras that are working fine.  All donated at the same time.
