Buy Google Nest Outdoor Camera Over Nest Doorbell

I would suggest using a regular old school doorbell and installing a Nest Outdoor Camera watching the door rather than a Nest Doorbell. I had the Nest Doorbell (2nd Gen Wired) installed and it was working well for a few months. All of a sudden last week it kept disconnecting from WiFi. The same WiFi it’s been on and the same WiFi all of my other cameras remain connected to. It was very hot last week and my theory is that when it gets too hot the doorbell shorts itself out or shorts out the doorbell transformer. I tried unsuccessfully for about two hours to try to reconnect it, but it wouldn’t reconnect after going through many troubleshooting suggestions on Google’s site. I also spent over an hour on a chat with Google trying to get it to work. I asked the chat agents to just give me a credit for an Outdoor Camera instead of just replacing the doorbell with another one that will likely have the same problem, but they refused that request multiple times. Again, my suggestion would be to just use a Google Nest Outdoor Camera over trying to get a Google Nest Doorbell to work consistently. I’ve had zero issues with the three cameras I have.

How did you reach Google chat? I keep getting put into an endless loop of web pages

Log into your Google Home account (not just your normal Google account) and you’ll see all of your connected devices there (cameras, doorbell, etc.). Once you click on a device, you can contact support from there for each device.

That's what I have been doing, but it never gets me there - just puts me into an endless loop...
