We’ve had our Nest cameras for about 2 years. From day 1, if a power outage occurs, at least one of the cameras goes offline and does not reconnect to the WiFi. We have to manually scan the QR code to reconnect as if we are just setting up the camera for the first time. It’s not the same camera ever occasion, and sometimes it’s more than one camera. This is a pain because our cameras are high and not easily accessible. These cameras aren’t cheap, so this is a major disappointment to us. Any suggestions will help.

Last year after a power outage a couple of our Google Nest Outdoor Cameras did not come back online when the power came back on. I was able to resolve it by unplugging each camera for a minute and then plugging it back in.

Hi that does work but if you are away from home it does not come back on line. Any ideas

Yes, we do the same. We either unplug them and plug them back or we scan the code again. The problem is we either have to go into the attic in small crawl spaces or get on a ladder to reach the roof line. What if the power goes out when I’m out of town. It sort of defeats the purpose of having the cameras if they are not working when you aren’t home. And this happens every time the power goes out which is more often now since the hurricane we had last August.

Hi there,
I apologize for my late response and thank you for all of your patience while waiting for a reply. I definitely understand how frustrating your situation must be, and I wanted to make sure that your concern was acknowledged. Do you still need help with this issue? I know that there's been a delay in response since you posted.
Please let me know if you need further assistance.
Best Regards,
Brad.

Yes, we are still experiencing the issue.

Are you the original owner of these cams? I ask because if the original owners never removed their own access, they could be messing things up if those cams are still part of their 'Home'.
Best regards,
Brad.

Yes we are the original owners.

Have you looked into a replacement option for the camera? It sounds like you have some sort of faulty issue with your device. Support could check and see if you are eligible for a replacement.
Best regards,
Brad.

I would like to know what is Nest doing to correct this issue. As you can see, I’m not the only one with this problem. Obviously, the issue is with the cameras. Honestly, if they would fix it to where we could reset the WiFi connection from the app, that would be a solution. But having to restart the device itself manually every time the power goes out is ridiculous. We pay a lot of money for these things and should get a better product than what I’ve experienced.

Brad,
I'm experiencing this problem as well. We have frequent power outages. I have multiple Nest cameras. After an outage some cameras can't reconnect to the WiFi. It seems like there is a conflict with all cameras trying to reconnect at once causing some cameras to "time out" and cease attempts to reconnect. A simple unplug solves the problem but this defeats the purpose of using these devices to monitor things while away.
Is Nest aware of the issue and is there a fix available or planned?

It’s not just one camera. It’s all the cameras, just random ones every time the power goes out. Sometimes it’s two cameras, sometimes it’s one camera. If I had known the issues with this, I would not have purchased Nest cameras.

I don't think the issue reported by @Csammonds and @Qwerty1957 is an isolated incident. Our experience has also been that, when there is a power outage and the power comes back on, Google Nest cameras often do not come back online without manual physical intervention, such as unplugging the cameras and plugging them back in again. That is problematic for customers who have cameras in a location away from their home or whose cameras are mounted in hard-to-access locations.

All three of my camera's have not come back on since a blackout. All are hardwired in and not easily accessible. There has to be a way to reset them without unplugging them. I can't lift my roof tiles everytime!

Exactly

Very frustrating as when I’m away the whole point of having cameras is security 🙄😡

I have the same issue and find it so frustrating. Anyone can find a way to cut power to someone’s house and disable the cameras, and if these people know the cameras won’t come back on just because power is restored, well.. they certainly have the upper hand on this, and we are all left at risk.

This is an issue with the nest system. Unplugging and plugging it back in fixes it so that means it's a software issue. Please fix this or I might as well switch to another's product that doesn't have this issue.

I experience the same issue, after a power outage all of my indoor cameras come back online but my two outdoor floodlight cameras will stay as "offline" and I have to scan the QR codes and setup as new devices. Very disappointed after spending nearly $2000 to outfit my home with Google Nest cameras.

I have the same issue as well and found that older generation cameras do not have this issue. I know this from having a very early Nest Outdoor cam and a newer one. When the power goes out at my vacation house the older one always comes back up. Where as the newer Nest Outdoor cam does not. Only if another power outage occurs or I physically unplug and replug it in does it come back. I have not had to rescan the QR code luckily. I have even assigned reserved IP addresses and changed out the power cord with Nest Support. There is definitely a bigger issue here and sadly I do not think it is OS related. I feel like it is a chip or motherboard issue.

Same issue here, very frustrating.

Very frustrating. Same thing happens to one of my outdoor cameras. When is Nest going to make this easier to fix, like just goi my into the app????? My cameras are high and not easily accessible. I hear there are no problems with Ring. I may think about getting a new device.
