Camera not detecting people

Hi

i am

having issues with my camera. Specifically, detecting motion of people. Most of the time it will not detect. My ring camera on a different location picks up the motion. Very strange. Has anybody had this issue ?

Hello Dominick,

Thanks for posting here in the Community. To confirm, what steps have you taken so far? Were there any changes to the Wi-Fi network? Are there other family members who can access the camera? Do they receive any notifications? Looking forward to your response.

Best,

Emerson

Hi Dominick,

I'm dropping by to ensure that everything is covered here. How's it going with your Nest Camera? We would appreciate it if you could share the information I’m asking above. We'd be glad to hear from you.

Hello Dominick,

Thanks for getting back to us. Your camera runs algorithms to process video and audio data so it can determine whether it detected something you might want to know about.

  • The camera is designed to analyze its video data for people, animals, and moving vehicles, and can recognize when the same people reappear.
  • To detect anything besides a person, animal, or moving vehicle, the camera checks for general motion in the scene. It learns what's normally in its background view and looks for movement and changes. As a result, it can sometimes trigger not just for important things, but also for minor things like tree branches that sway in the wind. If you only need your camera to detect people, animals, or moving vehicles, it's recommended that you do not turn on this feature. Hit this link for more information.

Also, you may try turning off and on the event notification settings from your Nest app or Google Home app. Try using a different mobile phone and see if it's the same behavior to further isolate the issue. Looking forward to your response.

Emerson

Dominick,

I've been having the same issue as you for about a year now. It tells me everytime a flea facts, but I'll get package deliveries, people will be at my door knocking, and I can go outside for my morning run, yet it won't pick up the event, record it, or send me a notification. I'm thinking of going to Ring.

Hi Bgracious79,

Don't give up on us yet. Let's sort this out — are the notifications for the seen events turned on in your Google Home app?

Give these steps a try:

  1. Open the Google Home app and click your camera thumbnail.
  2. Go to Settings > Events > Seen events.
  3. Turn on "Your notifications" option for People, Animals, Vehicles, or Motion.

Dominick, how’s it going? Still need our help?

I appreciate your help here, Emerson!

Thanks,

JT

I’m having the same problem. Camera is not picking up people at my back door. All the correct notifications are set. It totally missed me and my grandson going out the back door today.

Hey there,

Jayleesummers, I shared some steps above that should help do the trick. Those should help you get back on track.

Dominick and Bgracious79, how’s it going? Still need our help?

Thanks,

JT
