Can I connect a mini-speaker to a Nest wireless doorbell to a mini speaker without a hub?

Do I need a hub to connect to a wireless doorbell. Can the doorbell connect to a speaker without a hub? I know I can receive notifications on my phone but how do I get and actual chime inside the house when the doorbell rings? Simple question but the answer is not obvious.

Hi studioac,

Thanks for reaching out to the Community. I understand that you want to use your Nest Doorbell (battery) with a Google Nest Speaker as a chime. I’d be happy to help you. Let’s check it out.

Before we get started with further troubleshooting, let me ask you some questions:

  • What Nest Doorbell model do you have? 1st Generation or 2nd Generation?

Basic steps:

Combining a Nest Doorbell with a Nest Speaker is a fantastic way to enhance your home's security and convenience. Here's a step-by-step guide to get you started:

  • Nest Doorbell: Ensure it's installed and connected to your Wi-Fi network.
  • Nest Speaker: Ensure it's set up and connected to the same Wi-Fi network.
  • Google Home App: This app is essential for managing your Nest devices.

Setup Steps:

  1. Add Devices to Google Home App: Make sure both your Nest Doorbell and Nest Speaker are added to the same Google Home app account.
  2. Enable Visitor Announcements:
    • Open the Google Home app.
    • Tap on your Nest Doorbell.
    • Go to Settings > Visitor announcements.
    • Toggle the switch to On.
  3. Select Speakers: You can choose which Nest speakers or displays will announce visitor arrivals.
    • Tap Select speakers and displays to choose specific devices.

In case it helps, you can also review this article to Get doorbell visitor announcements on a speaker or display

Please keep me posted.

Best regards,

Mario
