Can’t get my iPhone or iPad to work with my battery doorbell

I cannot get my iPhone ( version 15.8) or my iPad (version 16.7) to connect with the doorbell.  I keep getting message - something went wrong , ive tried rebooting, airplane mode on and off and nothing works, soooooo frustrated, want to throw it out the window Grrrrr. Please can someone help a tech challenged old lady???
