Can't hear caller

Jpaulg

I have a wired Hello Doorbell (1st generation I guess). All seems to work well but I cannot hear callers. They can hear me. I understand it should be possible to talk and listen simultaneously. I'll be very grateful for any advice.

I tell a lie! If the caller shouts the sound is faintly audible. Is there anyway of adjusting the sensitivity of the microphone in the doorbell?

Hi Jpaulg,

Thanks for posting and I'm sorry to hear about the audio of your Nest doorbell. To confirm, is the audio issue persistent or intermittent? What is the make and model of your phone?

Try these steps:

  • Check the Google Home app or Nest app permissions
  • For Android users: Go to the phone’s Settings> Apps> Google Home or Nest  Permissions, and make sure Microphone is enabled.
  • For iOS users: Go to the device’s Settings> Google Home or Nest  Permission, and make sure Microphone is enabled.

Hi Emerson,

Thanks for your response. I have checked the permissions and they are all ok. My phone is a Realme 7 pro. I have a Google hub nest max which also displays the fault.

After more testing I have concluded that it's an intermittent fault. It briefly worked well. Sometimes the sound is very faint. Any advice will be appreciated.

Hi folks,

We appreciate your efforts here. Let’s dig deeper into this — you can also give these steps a try:

  1. Verify that the audio settings on your app are correct:
    • On the Nest app, tap the doorbell or camera > Settings, and set the Microphone on.
  2. When applicable, adjust the volume slider until you’re satisfied with the audio.
  3. Confirm if the audio issue happens on other mobile devices or computers.
  4. Uninstall and reinstall your Nest app.
  5. Restart your phone, turn it off for 60 seconds. Then, turn it on.

I appreciate the help here, Emerson.

Thanks,

JT
