Can't play recorded events Google Nest Cam (via Google Home/IPhone and Google Home/Surface Laptop)?

Dear Community,

So its seems that at this moment I cannot play recorded events (and cannot download them if I wanted), although my spouse can do this via her Samsung S24. I can however put the camera on and off via IPhone and laptop and see the live image.

I hope this is not an Apple/Microsoft vs Google thing, I doubt this, but it is strange. Anyone any suggestions perhaps.

Regards Patrick

(In Dutch sorry, I see this as screen when I try to play the recording):

Hi Pat2024,

Thank you for posting in the community. I'm sorry that you're unable to see and download the recording events. I understand how frustrating this can be when your spouse can do this on the Samsung S24. I'm here to help.

For further assistance, I need to ask a few questions:

  • What type of Nest camera do you have?

  • Are you signed into the right account?

  • Can you check the camera’s live feed?

  • When did the Nest camera stop working?

  • Did anything change in the home or with the camera around that time?

  • Do you have a Nest Aware subscription? If so, what type of Nest Aware subscription do you have?

  • Is all of their history missing or just certain portions?

  • How is the Wi-Fi connection in that part of the house?

  • How is the internet connection in general? Do you have any troubles with any devices going offline, slow downloads, too many people online at once, etc.?

  • Do you have a schedule set up for your camera? Did the schedule say the camera should have been on at the time of the missing history?

Please keep me posted. I'll look forward to your response.

Regards,

Byron

Hi ByronP,

I already shared a bit but I will respond (and I still think it is an Apple iPhone versus Google thing, with the IPhone having several settings for a/o security making normal working with Google hard/software not always easy as I also found out when installing the Nest Cams what only succeeded with my wife's Samsung mobile....)

  • What type of Nest camera do you have?->Brand new Google Nest Cams, wireless

  • Are you signed into the right account?->Yes via Google Home where I can see ands switch on/off the camera's, change settings of the cams, get notifications when something is seen, etc Only cannot see the recordings but I see the live feed. My wife can do the same AND she can see the recordings

  • Can you check the camera’s live feed?

  • When did the Nest camera stop working?->Seeing recordings never worked for me via IPhone (having the cams for almost more than 1 month)

  • Did anything change in the home or with the camera around that time?->No

  • Do you have a Nest Aware subscription?->No

  • Is all of their history missing or just certain portions?->History is not missing I just cannot see the history/recordings

  • How is the Wi-Fi connection in that part of the house? It is all OK with 2 people and approx 200Mbps download and approx 30 Mbps upload. But also being at work my wife can see recordings and I cannot

  • How is the internet connection in general? No, see above

  • Do you have a schedule set up for your camera? No schedule set up. Just switching it on or off

  • I have an IPhone SE 2020 FYI

Hi Pat2024,

Thank you for your response. Based on your answers provided.

Please make sure of the following:

Check if you and your wife have an active Nest Aware subscription (paid or trial) to allow the camera to see the recording events. The camera only shows 3 hours without a Nest Aware subscription; after 3 hours, all the history will be deleted.

  • Also, do you access the Google Home app or Nest app to see the recording events?

  • What is the exact error message that shows at the moment you try to see the recording events?

Keep me posted.

Byron

The following is the case: also did the same thing for my daughter. I/we disconnected form the Google Home app and had to be invited again. Once invited we both can see recordings. So that problem is solved (it is an Apple vs Google thing...). Only thing: we now seem to have less possibilities/rights in the Google Home app (for instance I cannot ad the Hue lamps in certain rooms we created in, for instance, 'the living room' although we can see the hue lamps in Google Home app and can click for On of Off, but I hope my wife can ad them to 'the living room'....).
