Can't save non-event clips in Google Home with newest battery camera

Blake77

Just want to confirm that the insanely basic ability to save clips of what Google doesn't mark as an "event" is coming to Google Home and the newer cameras, right? I've had numerous instances over the years of events that I saved but that Google didn't tag as an event, sound, people etc. I had an intruder the other week and the video wouldn't even load it seemed as if there was no recording, then when it finally did load it didn't show up as an event. THANKFULLY at the time the camera was still an older one using the Nest app/site so I could save the video. If I were to have the same situation again then I would not be able to save the clip of the intruder because he never came fully into frame and so it was never tagged as an "event". I believe when a person across the street fired 3 rounds into someone's door that Google did not mark the sound as an event and so I would not have been able to give the video to the police like I did. Why is anything being transitioned out of the Nest system and into Google Home if feature parity hasn't been met first? This is yet another BIG failure of Google putting out half finished products with basic features missing and serious bugs (like video not loading from the server).

I am with you.  Google really dropped the ball on this transition.  Nest was an awesome app, not having the new cameras on it and not having the same features in Google Home is so disappointing.

Hi Blake77,  I have been waiting for this (and many other Nest App features to be brought to the Google Home app) for about 9 months now.      I think the only workaround to this is to our you phone into SCREEN RECORD MODE, then go back the the Google home app and play the region you are trying to capture, then exit record mode on the phone and you get a clip that way.  I know it is super cumbersome but I believe it will work.   But of course we shouldn't have to do this.    A very sad situation indeed.

Ridiculously the best option seems to be to downgrade to the older cameras and hope that Google adds this most basic feature before integrating the old cameras. The screen recording is probably what I'll do since I don't want to buy old cameras to replace the new cameras that I can't return. Absolutely insane that this is the state of things seemingly because Google can't have departments work together in any capacity. Everything is its own solo and competing against each other.

I agree it is a ridiculous situation and we are 9 months out. For me I had to return the old ones because not being able to view the new cams on my computer was one of the deal breakers.

Ah crap, you can still view them on your computer they just hit it in the drop-down menu when you click your profile at the top right while at the store.google.com site. The link is https://home.nest.com/

Wait, reread your post. You mean you had to return the new ones? If so then that's definitely a big issue, if you have a Chromebook you luckily can install the Android app but it's obviously slower than it should be since it's not native. Still just get another workaround because Google doesn't prioritize smooth transitions.

Correct, you still can not view the new cams via a computer browser. I returned them in the allowable window.  This was about 7 months ago.  I don't have a Chromebook.  I'm all Mac based.  I ended up buying used Gen1 cams on ebay and I'm very content staying on the NEST APP and using home.next.com to view the Gen1 cameras.

It's not really going anymore because there's been no response from anyone that has any information about this. You're a community specialist, do you not have information that'd be helpful?

No, I do not have any updates. Once there is one, you will know. This is an ongoing issue.

Knowing it's an ongoing issue is useful information. I couldn't find anything about this. How long has this been a known issue?

Hi blake77,  I can tell you it has been an ongoing issue for at least 9 months (the date the released these new cameras)

Thanks! A lot longer than I expected given how big of an issue this is. Hopefully it's fixed soon since it's already almost been a year! 😭

I'm afraid I am unable to speak on the matter with the community at this time, but we are working on it. I cannot provide an ETA at this time. Thank you for your patience.

Can you provide an update on the Google WiFi regularly going offline for no apparent reason? I realized it was a loading issue with the Nest cameras and turned off Wi-Fi. That's when things started loading, but still has loading issues it was just better than while on wifi. Which means there might be recording issues due to WiFi issues. So yeah, kinda every Google products seems to be unstable.

I have constant issues with my Nest Hubs, Nest Hub Maxs, Nest Cameras, Google WiFi, Google TV, then not as often but issues with basically every other Google thing I use. It's not a good look.

I am afraid this is not the wifi Forums, this is the Cameras and Doorbells forums. I cannot assist you with a wifi question. Please go to those forums if you wish to seek wifi help. I apologize that I cannot answer those questions, but it is not my expertise nor my forums to manage. Please go to the appropriate forums to seek the information and assistance you need.

These responses are pretty painful. That response repeats the same thing 3 times and the only useful info has been that it's a known issues that's being worked on. Guess I'll just continue waiting with no ETA, no updates and feeling like Google could care less about these product breaking issues. Fun.
