Cannot get notifications on phone when doorbell is rung

BlahFlob

ok, so as far as I can tell, the Nest Doorbell can not actually ring / alert your phone when the bell is pushed. What exactly is the doorbell for? I mean, it's great being able to see who you have just missed, but surely the whole point of an intelligent doorbell is that you can respond to the person at your door in real time?

Am I missing something

Make sure you have the push notifications set properly under the Doorbell settings. Open the app and open the doorbell and you should see the live view through the camera. Click on the gear icon for settings. Look under the notification setting and make sure you have push notifications set and Always set for when to send. Set all they types of notifications you want (packages, etc.). Also, make sure you have Visitor announcements turned on.

It is most likely a setting, and should be simple enough to test as someone rings the doorbell. Other than that, there may be a connection issue to your WiFi.

Hi, yes I have this set up as you say. I spoke to the online help folks, and after an hour or so they told me that this product is not designed to chime on your phone - struggling to see what it's actually for!

OK, I have the Nest "Hello" Doorbell and it does notify me whenever someone presses the button. Good to know.

For the price it costs I feel it should do that (at least that), at first I thought this would be the default behavior, why would it not call your phone?? it makes no sense at all!! all cheap brands do that out of the box.

This doorbell is a total rip-off in the price for what it does and it is full of issues that should have been addressed.

I completely agree, I'm hoping that someone will tell me I'm being daft and there is a fix, but I cannot see one...

for ref I have the Nest Doorbell (wired) this seems to be very different to the wireless one (which I'm told does ring the phone)  - the 'wired' version was not available as an option in the drop-down for the start of this thread, is this Nest telling us something?

I have the latest (battery) version which is in fact wired 😕 and for what you told me it is the same I simply get a notification on my phone that someone called, you can easily not even notice that, and since there's a bug on the notifications notifying you 2x for the same event all the time it is stupid my old Zmodo doorbell ($80) was great compared to this overpriced nuisance from Nest/Google I have already submitted dozens of feedback since day 1 for the same issues none ever contacted me to say "sorry, we're are working on it" 😞

I don't know if this would help (since I have an iPhone) but here's a similar post for an Android phone:

https://www.googlenestcommunity.com/t5/Cameras-and-Doorbells/No-doorbell-notification-on-phone/m-p/2...

That seems to be more directly about the notifications which I figured out on another topic but the scenario here is that we should get a call on the phone option if someone rang the doorbell

Really dumb functionality that if you’re away from your home and someone rings your doorbell the only thing that happens is an easily overlooked notification in your notifications bar. Same issue here, push the next doorbell button and a silent notification comes up on your phone along with all the other spam notifications we get all day, no noise no call no real “alert”. The only way you can have an audible chime in your home with the battery doorbell is by connecting it with your nest mini speaker or other devices in your home.

Hello,

I have the exact same issue with the new google nest doorbell (battery) that I've just got done installing and setting up. SO annoying that the phone doesn't ring/chime/sound alert me when someone presses the doorbell.

This means the doorbell is useless when I am away from home because I cannot rely on the "smart" doorbell to alert me on the phone so I can answer the visitor at my door remotely!

Agree with what others have said on this thread.

Extremely disappointing of Google and will be returning my doorbell now.

I have the Nest doorbell (wired) and have the same issue....no audible alert when my phone is locked. If it is unlocked, I get an audible alert. I am very disappointed with this Google product.

Hi Brad,

Yes, I do still need help with this issue. I do not get an audible alert on my phone when someone rings the doorbell or the camera notices a person approaching.

@UncleRedDog

Unfortunately, the new Nest Doorbell (battery) 2021 does not provide an audible chime sound. A chime is not included, but when a visitor presses your Nest Doorbell (battery), you can hear an audible alert if you have compatible smart speakers or displays, like Nest Audio or Nest Hub. If you choose the optional hard-wired installation, it will work with your existing doorbell chime. I apologize if this is an inconvenience to you, and I thank you for your patience and feedback.

Please let me know if you need further assistance.

Best regards,

Brad.

Thanks for the reply Brad. I do have the Nest doorbell (wired) and I get audible alerts on my smart speakers, but that doesn't help me when I am not home, which is the whole reason I purchased this doorbell to begin with. I guess I will return it and get a Ring doorbell. Thanks again for your response.

Precisely as @UncleRedDog and others are saying here - for people hoping to see benefit of the nest doorbell not just when they are inside the house but even outside, this bell is useless.

The sole purpose for me to buy the doorbell was to be able to get alerted when I am mobile (not at home). This bell is of no use in that. When I am home I can see through the window/eye hole/or just walk to the door to address the visitor - why will I need a fancy bell when it is just not better than the conventional bell for a tenner!?

Disappointed. I am looking for a google defect code so I can return it and get my money back.
