Changing wifi network on one Nest camera

kmreeves

I'm trying to change the wifi network on one camera.  When I remove it from "home", reset the camera and add it back it automatically selects the network it was on.  I assume it is getting the information from the home it is being added to.  Do I need to create a new home, and how can I move it to the other home afterwards?

As another Google Nest customer, it sounds like you may be trying to put your Google Nest Camera (Battery) on a different Wi-Fi network than the other devices in your Google Nest "home", though I don't know why you would want to do that. I don't believe Google Nest supports this. They don't seem to explicitly document this in their camera and Google Home documentation online, but the following page on migrating Google WiFi to the Google Home app says: "The Google Home app only supports one Wi-Fi network per home..."

If that's what you're trying to do, you could create a new "home" and add the camera there, but you would not be able to move it to your original "home" and retain the new Wi-Fi network settings it seems you might want.

If that is not what you're trying to do, then I'm puzzled by why your Google Nest "home" is on the original Wi-Fi network.

I added a wifi extender to be able to provide the one camera a stronger signal.  The extender created a wifi network with the same name but _EXT on the end.

I don't think you can do what you are trying to do. All of the Google Nest devices in a "home" have to be in the same Wi-Fi network; that's why, if your phone is on your "home" on your main Wi-Fi network (without the "_EXT" in the network name [SSID]), Google Nest is selecting that network when you re-add the camera. If, on your phone, you log into your "_EXT" Wi-Fi network and create a "home" on that Wi-Fi network and add your camera there, you will not be able to remove it from that new "home" and add it to your main "home".

To extend coverage in our home, we have two routers configured in bridge mode as access points and connected via ethernet cable to our ISP's router/modem, with the same network name (SSID) and password used by all 3 devices.
