Cooldown Period excessive

Batwam

As per this post and others, the cooldown period preventing event to be captured in short succession is exceedingly long and there is no plan to add a setting to address it: https://www.googlenestcommunity.com/t5/Cameras-and-Doorbells/Notification-Cool-Down-Period-Issue-Una...

i was wondering if there would be a way to work out a solution using the power of the community and work around this. Assuming that the cooldown is 5min (is it?), I’m thinking for instance turning the camera off 2 min after an event and then back on using a script or Home Assistant perhaps?

Alternatively, is there a way to access more “advanced” settings another way? I’m open to any suggestion as this is currently a security risk.

@Batwam

If you have a Nest Aware Plus subscription, any events that occur during the cooldown period are still recorded, even if no notification is sent and no event is flagged (unless the camera is running on battery power).

Thanks for sharing. I’d ideally be looking for something which works without having to go with the Premium plan but it’s a good point. However, this means that even with 24/7 coverage and wired, events during cooldown won’t be recorded as events and would need to be searched manually?

@Batwam

Yes, additional events that occur during the cooldown period that are not captured with the initial event are not flagged as events and would need to be searched manually.

That’s one way to put it. Clearly this is a known issue. I get that it’s there to avoid spamming people with notifications and save on the battery I don’t understand how it can be so hard to add a setting to let people manually set the desired period. I had to wire all my cameras anyway as the battery life seemed to be 5 weeks which is way too low so I should be free to send notifications to myself as often as I care to handle them.
